Disappointment all around

So i figured since this site is what ultimately...

So i figured since this site is what ultimately helped me find my doctor i would start writing my story!! I had my consultation with dr. ciardullo and immediately new he was the one for the job. although my surgery is a few months away i just want to be prepared for everything!! I've always hated my nose and think it takes away from my face. finally, i'm brave enough to go through with the surgery. i guess my biggest concern is the side effects as far as nausea, dizziness, etc. go with the surgery. i feel like i have a pretty high tolerance for pain so im not as worried about that but i just don't want to feel out of control when i wake up from the anesthesia because ive never had it before!! im nervous its going to be a "trippy" feeling lol and i just dont want it to be!! any helpful tips and or comments will be really helpful!!

Its done!!! So yesterday i had my surgery around...

its done!!! So yesterday i had my surgery around 10am. I was seriously beyond nervous. I am such a big baby, i can barely get a cavity filled without crying and the actual surgery was a piece of cake!! the nurses, dr, anesthesiologist, were just as everyone says; Amazing and so calming. I can't believe it's done!!! I ended up going with a nostril tuck which i am a little concerned about. I know i needed it, but the stitches and idea of scars are scary. When i got home from surgery I mostly laid around and watched tv/ slept. I got a horrible nights sleep last night. The pressure from the nose cast was honestly a little scary/traumatic for me. I however did not take any pain killers and instead opted for tylenol and lorazapam to calm some of my anxiety/discomfort. I have black and blue eyes mostly the inner eye and my forehead is pretty swollen! I hope that the pain doesn't get worse from here!!

So i got my cast off yesterday 1/04/12 and i was...

So i got my cast off yesterday 1/04/12 and i was liking what i saw. waking up this morning i look awful though :( it's really upsetting. my nose (the whole thing not just the tip) looks absolutely huge. I really am scared and sad today.. hope this goes away

So i added some more pictures to show you my...

so i added some more pictures to show you my before/after side profile. im trying not to be too critical about my nose so i will update at the one month mark more in depth of how i feel about it. hopefully alot of my unhappiness with it is due to swelling.

Hey guys so its been 1 month post op and i thought...

hey guys so its been 1 month post op and i thought i'd update. i personally dont see much change in my nose since the cast came off. maybe a tiny bit of swelling went down.. i posted a picture so you can see my front before and after. hopefully it looks like an improvement. even though the 'after' pic is kind of flattering. i notice alot of lumpiness and fullness in the tip, and i still see swelling in the bridge. hopefully it keeps getting better. dr C is such a well known doctor so i have to trust that he knows what hes doing and that i will eventually be happy. hope everyone is recovering well! feel free to ask me any questions

It's been 1.5 months and I can honestly say I hate my nose.. a revision is definitely going to be in my cards and seeing as I'm in college ill probably have to wait for a while. It took me almost a year to save up for this surgery and now I'm left with something I can barely stomach to look at.

Just wanted to update.. after giving myself almost...

just wanted to update.. after giving myself almost 10 weeks to at least see some improvement ive seen none. i called dr. c to meet with me and look at it and of course now that i have a problem its going to be almost a month until he can meet with me.. funny because im pretty sure when i wanted a consultation i was put in the next week. i feel like lots of these reviews on here might be made up based on how grossly different my results are.

Hopefully my posts don't sound too crazy, although...

Hopefully my posts don't sound too crazy, although I don't love my new nose yet, I think it's making some progress. Really hoping time will make this better.Added a before and after

This is going to be my last post ... My advice to...

This is going to be my last post ... My advice to everyone out there would be to go to MULTIPLE consultations with everyone you can find. After having my 3 month post op appointment it's very clear me and my doctor had different ideas about what the nose should look like. My doctor over promised and under delivered. The bottom two thirds of my nose are very disproportionate and after going to 2 revision specialists who confirmed this, my own doctor explained it was "impossible" to narrow the bottom 2/3rds of my nose. Had this been explained to me prior to surgery I would've never gone through with it.. The other specialists told me that too much was taken off my bridge and not enough off the tip giving my nose a flat, disproproportiante look and that this is fixable with cartilage grafts. My goal was NOT perfection. I was merely looking for an improvement.. What a got was a bunch of empty promises and now a year of time before I can repair this mess. Please please do your research ladies! Going off Internet reviews left me heartbroken, don't make the same mistake!!

Im sorry to hear about ur results. Its always a huge disappointment when you expected one thing, and then to your surprise the complete opposite happens. I had my septorhinoplasty procedure done may 2st so im still very swollen, and I can defiantly relate cause I only went to one consultation and even though hes an amazing doctor im pretty sure I have an open roof deformity now after my procedure :( I have this empty gap between my nasal bones. I really hope I don't need a revision because im also in college and don't have the time or more money to go through with another procedure. Hope you find a great surgeon for a revision! When are you thinking of having it?

Hang in there, sweetie! We are in a similar boat..... I have many issues after surgery but my twisted/collapsed side I have is from before surgery that not only did he not fix, but narrowing my nasal bones emphasized it. I now am looking into revision mostly involving grafts as well. It is so so so tough to come out of this and be disappointed... especially because we try to give it time through the first couple of months to see if it is just "swelling" or if it gets better. Such a depressing thing when you keep hoping and the disappointment gets confirmed. I can tell you are still beautiful, though! I know you may not feel that way but try to hang in there. I agree with your advice about multiple consults. Did your surgeon do imaging? Mine didn't and I know some docs don't want to give false hope but I feel in my case it would have shown me that my surgeon had no intention of fixing my nasal collapse. Truly frustrating. In regards to one of your earlier posts saying "Hopefully my posts don't sound too crazy"... that is so how I felt I was sounding but this procedure will make you feel crazy if it goes wrong. You and I tried to be so optimistic. Well good luck in your search for a revision surgeon! I hope there is a very happy and well deserved ending in the near future for you!

No my doctor did not do any imaging and I dumbly believed his reasons for not using it!! I am so sorry you have to go through this!! Thank you for writing to me.. I know my friends/family are so sick of hearing about it but I am absolutely sick over it :( who was your surgeon? Who are you looking at for revision? Ugh you go into these things with such high hopes... I can't imagine how a doctor who said I was an easy case who pretty much guranteed me an A+ nose left me w such horrible results... Was it really worth the 6 grand to absolutely destroy someone's confidence? Ugh, so saddened by this..

I am going to look into Dr. Kim in SF, Dr. Most in Stanford, and I am at a loss right now as to who else to consult with being that I am kind of early for revision and want doctors to have a clear idea what they are working with. I drive my family/bf nuts, too! You just can't fathom it until you go through it and I cannot believe I am going through it. I was not asking for much and have always maintained realistic expectations so I was quite surprised that my doctor fell short. I will PM you his name! Please, when you are just feeling so distraught or sad or alone over this, think of me and others right there with you! Feel free to message me and contact others on this site in the same boat as you. It's part of what has pulled me through so far! You can always message me!

Hi! I have a consultation with Dr. C on Monday & reading this made me very unsure of picking him :( I'm sorry your nose didn't come out the way you hoped, how is it now? Any better? Any advice or tips you could share with me? Thanks :)
wsplashw28 9 Apr 2013
Hi nosenose, how are your results doing now? I am scheduled with Dr. C for May 2nd for rhinoplasty with septoplasty and just saw your review. I appreciate you putting your experience out there! I hope you are feeling better with less swelling!

so sorry to hear about what happened girlie. I know you've been having a very tough couple of months but hang in there and don't put yourself down. Life throws things at us like this so just stick with the decision for a couple of more months and then fix things from there. I totally understand why you arent happy with the width of the bottom of the nose as that is my primary concern as well!
tracileigh 14 Mar 2013
Oh dear, I'm so sorry that you are heartbroken... I would never dream of choosing a doctor based on just internet reviews. There is much homwork to be done when choosing a plastic surgeon. Checking credentials, research about rhinoplasty itself, etc. You can never do too much homework when dealing with someone who is going to operate on your face. I hope there is something that can be done for you. God Bless

he has his credentials and even received rewards .. Pretty scary stuff!! Just meant what sealed the deal with me for him (after a year of contemplation and research) was how good people rated him ! Couldn't find one negative thing about him
nosenose72 14 Mar 2013
Awards* not rewards.. Hate auto correct lol
meldibson 12 Mar 2013
I personally think that there is not so much difference between your old nose and your new nose; which might be frustrating. Take heart
kyza 8 Mar 2013
What don't you like about it? It looks really great from that photo! I think it'll only get better and better. I can't imagine how hard it is to be patient in this situation but I'm sure it'll keep improving! You're probably just swollen. You have SUCH gorgeous eyes by the way!
nosenose72 11 Mar 2013
Thanks ! I hope so but many drs from this ssite say he didn't narrow the bottom 2 thirds of my nose enough. Very upsetting. Guess it goes to show you can't base your decisions off Internet reviews
sarah_tonin 8 Mar 2013
I'm sorry you still don't like your nose :( if it means anything, I think from the new front shot you posted, it looks fantastic! It looks straighter and more refined than your old nose but still so much like you that anyone who didn't know about it wouldn't be able to tell you had work done. Can you tell me again what exactly it is about your new nose that you dislike so much? :(
nosenose72 11 Mar 2013
It looks wider than my old nose. Tons of doctors I messaged from the site told me the bottom 2/3rds wasn't narrowed enough and that I have a step off deformity. Going to see my dr wed. But really dont know what to think ..
KatinaT143 11 Mar 2013
You going back to Dr. C? Let me know how it goes. If he offers a revision would you do it ?
nosenose72 11 Mar 2013
Definitely not! Just want to know what the hell happened and maybe get some steroids to try to help :(

Just 3 days ago I had to have the underside of my nose redone. I had a bump there, not sure why that happened. Now I have stitches again and feel like I have gone all the way back to the start. Swelling and pain. I have missed work and an not happy but I guess only time will tell. My doctor has been very good about getting me in to see him. I would insist that you get in before you did! I had mu surgery the same day that you did.
rena2013 2 Mar 2013
I agree insist or demand. I went to see my doctor six or nine days after surgery because something was bothering me. A surgeon should never tern you away after you paid him a ton of money. Most surgeons are good about seeing their patients if they insist. I have visited my guy on monthly basis and althugh he was a bit aggravated with me he still never said no and was happy to answer my questions. He even responded to all my emails with pictures and called me back after long days of surgery around 8pm. Although I am not happy about my results I will say that he has great bedside manners.

I hate my nose as well, its been 3 months. Everyone kept saying "its the swelling, you will love it eventually," and I am losing hope because there seems to be no progress. I definitely would take back all this if I could. Let me know if your doctor does anything to improve your situation.
rena2013 28 Feb 2013
Jackson21, in your case the surgeon put fat graft into your nose that will take way long to reabsorb. Some of it will stay and some of it will reabsorb. I am not sure if it will leave any bump or lumps but I think you should ask surgeons on this site. I have gotten tons of information from them here. Make sure you word it exactly what your surgeon did and tell them what kind of a procedure you have done, how long you are out, and what kind of a fat graft he put into your nose. They might help you understand what the healing process is. I am very sorry you don't like your nose but I still hope that your nose will improve with time. That fat graft can take a very long time to reabsorb.
jackiescotland 27 Feb 2013
That sucks. This type of thing happening is what puts me off getting my nose done. Bleh sorry to hear what happened.

Hi there,

I'm so sorry you're not happy with your results thus far. You look great in your pictures. And it can take more than just a couple months for the swelling to go down (a whole year for some people).

I can assure that you all reviews go through human moderators and we do our very best to make sure no 'made up' or spam reviews get on the site.

Please let us know what your doctors says.

tracileigh 27 Feb 2013
Sorry about that last question, nevermind that I asked that. I found the doctor by that last name that is in New York.
tracileigh 27 Feb 2013
Was your plastic surgeon in Buenos Aires?
