I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy. My diagnosis was ductal carcinoma insitu stage 0.My reason for the surgery was for peace of mind. The other alternative would have been a lumpectomy followed by 7 weeks of radiation. That was not for me.I am very pleased with the outcome. My last surgery was just three days ago for my permanent implants. Beforehand if I knew the end result would be this amazing it would have been much easier to cope.My life will never be taken for granted. I plan to live life to it's fullest and continue to exercise and maintain a healthy diet.Dr Hamawy is a caring brilliant plastic surgeon.

I didn't get them filled righ away because in the meantime I had to have another surgery to remove my left nipple. They tried to spare it but due to scaring there was not enough circulation for it to heal. It was black ugh! I waited another 3 weeks before he started filling that one up again to match the other side. I went on a cruse with them uneven after 6 weeks into recovery. So my filling started to get underway after 7 weeks. It went quickly to fill I went 2 weeks in a row & then waited a week in between. So 3 in all.The 3rd was the most painfull full to capacity. He even took some saline out of the left side because he knew I would be sore. After that I waited until Aug 27th with these softballs to have the permanent implants put in. I went througn so much before the big surgery to have the mastectomy that I was just determined not to let it het the better of me.The last couple of weeks when they weren't painful I just started to joke about having to carry them around with me. I teach fitness classes so in class I would crack jokes all the time about them. Now I keep touching my new ones I can't believe how soft they are. I really do feel lucky today xo . LZ

How wonderful to read that your reconstruction went well. I'm assuming you had to go through the expansion phase. How was that for you?

It was very uncomfortable.I felt like I had softballs for breasts.

Oh, that definitely doesn't sound pleasant. How much did you tend to get at each fill appointment?
