“4 Days In...these Are COOL! - Vancouver, BC”
Spent: $6,000 in Vancouver, BC Canada
Posted 9 Jan 2011
I just started a 1 year invisalign treatment for crowding issues on top and bottom of my teeth. I am seeing an orthodontist who is an elite premier provider, and also part of the invisalign research team, so I'm confident I am seeing someone knowledgeable in the field.
When getting the molds done, I didn't have any of the gagging issues people talk about...and I gag when getting x rays at the dentist!
The clinchik videos are very inspiring to watch, and keeps me excited about my treatment!
The first day, I really noticed the liners in my mouth, and felt some pressure on some of my teeth when taking them in and out. After the 2nd day, that was gone. I had a slight lisp for the first few days but that is now completely gone as well.
As for pain: I really wouldn't call this painful, and I have a low pain tolerance. I took an advil just to keep any inflammation down on day 1, but this really is minor.
When taking them out to eat, my teeth feel a little annoyed and disturbed...and feel almost wobbly when I eat! It's a very weird sensation!
No one notices you have them in at all...it's really amazing. I went back to work after my appointment and my boss asked why I hadn't gone to get my braces put in yet!
My only complaint is that my tongue has a few tender spots from brushing up against the aligners while speaking, but that is already going away. Otherwise, these are really cool! Teeth movement with minimal pain, and no one noticing...worth every penny!
I was very hesitant to get invisalign because of all the reviews I've read where people complain about the results not being what was projected. After reading more closely, almost every one of those reviewers was someone who is going to a dentist instead of an ortho.
My advice: If you are considering invisalign, go to an orthodontist. I would never let a GP do surgery on me, why would I let a dentist move my teeth? If you're making the investment on something as visible as your teeth, go to a specialist.

My Doctor: name not provided
Elite premiere provider and just all around super nice guy
Thanks for writing such a helpful review! These tips are wonderful.
I've heard the same things about dentists vs. orthodontists. Does your orthodontist work at your normal dental practice or did you have to find a completely different provider?
I was just quoted 7600$ by a Vancouver elite provider (ortho), which is the highest I've seen in my research. My teeth are not complicated or horribly misaligned - so I don't see this as contributing to the fee - he said my case is straighforward. While this includes visits, retainers, etc, it does not include whitening afterwards.
While I'd love to proceed, that is simply too much money. I'd love a second opinion - would you mind passing on the name (or last initial? or neighbourhood?) of who you're going to for 6000?
Thanks
