I had a Rhinoplasty done a week ago. My nose is really swollen and looks abnormal. Now, it looks double my original size. Its swollen from the top up to the tip. What can I do to reduce the swelling, so I can resume my work duties? -- Updated on Dec 17, 2009: I had preformed a closed Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty procedure ten days ago. My nose is very swollen and my tip looks very big compared to the rest of the nose. I have attached before and after photos, please advise on when do you think my tip will be reduced. I'm very worried. -- Updated on Jan 2, 2010: When can I take Steroids shots for my tip. How long post- surgery do doctors give these shots? Am I eligible?

This is all normal at this point in time. You can apply warm compresses at the 2 week point, not hot, just warm. 20 minutes 4 times each day. In general, however, the swelling will go away slowly on its own; you just need to be patient. Consult your surgeon if you are still concerned.

it takes a minimum of 14 days to look ok and atleast 21 days to look good. sometimes there are complications where it can take longer. Stay away from direct sunlight and contact, tho keep nose skin clean.
Reem, I can see your swelling has improved since last pics. You may want to try the nose taping method to reduce swelling. How are you now? It's time for an update as this is when the swelling should be gone.

Pain level: Moderate

I did it because I wasn't satisfied with my looks. The swelling is outrageous and you wonder when it will look normal.

Pros: Will be filled at a later stage.

Swelling after rhinoplasty is normal and it can take a while to resolve. Here's a related thread that might help: Is it important to reduce swelling after Rhinoplasty?

Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

Reem, I had my rhinoplasty a month ago and I had big swelling then. Swelling is normal at this stage. I recommed that you use Vitemin C 500 (2 tablets/day) and use saline nose spray that you can buy from any pharmacy. It helped me alot and my swelling reduced quickly in a short period of time. Of course some swelling (i.e. tip) will need longer time to dispear. Worrying is against healing. Please avoid negative feelings and always think about your final great result!
Reem, The saline spray (salt water) I am using is Sinomarin. There are other brands in the market that you can use (i.e, Ocean spray, etc. It's salt watr only and it is safe to use several times a day. Good luck!
Sharon: Thanks for the links. Very helpful! Lifesgood: Thanks for the tips. I'll post some of my recent after pics, when the swelling reduces more. Good Luck with your swelling :)
