I was 40 years old when I first noticed a neck...

I was 40 years old when I first noticed a neck chord on the left side under my chin, which increased over the next 6 years running down almost to my collarbone. I was using botox to relax it until I decided that a permanent solution would be best, so I researched accredited plastic surgeons and sought consultation with Dr. Landon to discuss the possibilities of a minimal or slight neck lift.

I found doctor Landon to be highly knowledgeable, very kind and open to share his opinions on the best options relative to my condition. He spent more than two hours with me, explaining his opinion that I was not yet ready for a neck lift, which is what I thought I needed to take care of the issue. After he explained his reasoning, I agreed. Instead, he suggested that a mini face lift would take care of my neck chord issue, and provide improvement to my lower face, which was only just beginning to show signs of sagging. He also recommended CO2 dot laser treatment for my neck and face, to achieve optimal results by further improving my skin complexion, which was ridden with small acne scars on my cheeks that were beginning to increase with the aging process. He said he could do both procedures at the same time while I was under general anesthesia to achieve the best practical, cost effective and comfortable experience. I agreed.

I was told that the procedure would take approximately 2 hours, and that his process and mini face lift was not nearly as severe or comparable to the procedure and recovery time needed for a full face lift. I saw amazing before and after photos of his work on other women, and even spoke to one of his patents who also had the procedure a few months before me, (though she was 30 years older that I at the time).

The following is an account of my experience with the procedures, recovery and results:

The procedure was quick, it only took an hour to complete. My husband and I were shocked to see that I had staples in my scalp about two inches long from the top of my ears towards the top of my head, then stitches all the way around my ears toward the back of my head. I knew the incisions would be fairly significant, but I didn't know about the stapled areas. This was no simple surgery. It was a bigger deal than I had imagined and was swollen for more than two weeks, and couldn't move from my couch for three weeks.

As I began to heal, things began to look great. I was very happy at 1, 2, 3 through 6 months post op, until I started noticing significant hollowing of my temples, tear troughs and under my cheek bones. At that point the doctor recommended two vials of sculptra to fill these areas, at the cost of $1250.00

I used sculptra in the past with great results, but at that time my face wasn't nearly as hollowed. I was optimistic that the scultpra would give me what I wanted based on past results, but felt disappointed that I had just spent $8500.00 for a mini face lift and CO2 dot laser, but now needed $1,250.00 worth of sculptra to put back what was lost. I was further surprised that he was not the person to inject my sculptra when it came time, but a nurse practitioner instead.

When the scuptra was placed I was thrilled! It looked amazing, however and unfortunately, I was only experiencing the fullness effect of the water that was mixed with the sculptra product. 4 weeks later my face was back to the same hollowing I saw before the sculptra was put in, and it never came back. (It's very common to lose 40 to 60% of the volume after sculptra is injected, but I lost all of it and it never came back).

At approximately 7-8 months post op I also began to notice my skin texture return to its poor condition prior to the CO2 dot laser, which was very upsetting because that procedure was no joke! I looked like a burn victim for two weeks, and took many more weeks to heal from, including time away from normal life activities living in the sunshine state.

To make this long story short, the final results of the mini face-lift have me looking like a mix between skeletor and the joker, or a vampire. I must now have other filler types injected to reverse the horrible and strange looking lines running from the corners of my mouth, up under my cheek bones to my temples, which were created by the "vertical lifting" on the bottom half of my face.

I've since and very recently undergone BBL to treat my skin, which has been a major blessing above the CO2 Dot, and the temporary fillers help the vampire issue, “somewhat.” I am now seeking more permanent solutions to correct the skeletor issue, and considering extremely expensive fat grafting from another plastic surgeon.

In the end, the truth is that I was not ready for a mini face-lift, and I now look 5 to 10 years older than I did before I had the procedure only 1.5 years ago. It's funny looking back in hindsight and remembering how one of the nurses at Dr. Landon's office, who on the same day of my consult, kept telling me (lovingly) that I did not need a mini face lift and that I was crazy to get one. I just thought she was being nice, but now I realize she was trying to tell me something serious. She was right. I already looked 10 years younger than I was when I walked into the consultation with Dr. Landon, but vanity got the best of me.

I don't blame Dr Landon alone for this result. I take responsibility for accepting this procedure as a possible remedy to correct my neck chord, of which and very unfortunately, still shows about half the length that it was before the procedure. Go figure!

I would recommend Dr Landon to women who are and/or look like they are at least 60 years old and older. If you are a younger looking woman already, please keep looking for other doctors and options.
