Hello, friends..... I had a full tummy tuck on...

Hello, friends..... I had a full tummy tuck on July 26th, 2013. Ouch!!! :)

The first month has been quite an uphill journey, but I know why. I was overweight and had the surgery despite. The penniculectomy was so necessary for me to even walk. So, the full program of abs and whatnot was incorporated into the surgery. Insurance covered it and gave me a window of time to have it done. I tried to get an extension and they didn't want to budge without a fight. So, it was done prematurely, but with anticipated success.

The surgery, according to my PS went well. I stayed two days in the hospital due to pain factor and I am a wimp. I left after day two and had a heck of a first week. Super high blood pressure and very rapid heart rate that slowly subsided as week two began. Lots of perspiration too.

Week three one of two drain tubes was removed. The other one was left in there. Fluid began to turn pink and the clotting was not an issue. Still feeling a little lethargic and not much of an appetite. At this point, despite my healthy intake of food (casting aside the full feeling and concentrating on nutrient intake) I have been dropping weight like I was having a fire sale.

At the end of week four the other drain tube was finally removed and I got the green light to shower. Relief!!! At the end of week four I saw myself naked in the mirror for the first time. Not surprised at the lumps, waves and swelling, but not thrilled about it in the same breath. Outside stitches are still in holding the outer layer of skin together. Lots of gross stuff surrounding the cut at this point, but nothing indicative of an infection.

Now entering week 5.....walking, standing up straight and sleeping like a baby. Clothes fit, hormones have balanced out and additional weight loss though smaller appetite. Food cravings are changing. Everything seems to be pointing in a positive direction, but my patience is constantly remind me 'Rome wasn't built in a day'.

I only say 'Not Sure' at this point because it is too soon to make a positive determination. What I did discover is that the mental portion of this heavily outweighs the physical. Lots of emotions, both up and down are beginning to settle. Will report more later!

This surgeon is top notch in my opinion. He listened and he has stuck with me on an almost daily basis riding this out with me. I actually consider him a friend now based on his level of caring and expertise. He pays attention to detail, he is cautious and provides a well rounded experience balancing both emotional and physical well being. He also did a bang-up job on the operating table. He actually answers emails!!!
