4 Surgeries and Need Advice (37 Y/o Female)

$6,000

My question is a big one:I am a 37 soon to be 38 year female who had rhinoplasty 17 years ago.I knew I would need it redone one day b/c of what I could afford and the surgeon then said we were only taking the hump down and not touching other parts that needed work.Nonetheless he moved to the states shortly after.I got what I paid for and I knew that.

About 4-5 years ago I went for revision rhinoplasty.I felt I chose a good surgeon.Well after the revision I did not see much of a difference and he agreed to refine the work.

This is where the trouble started. Now I was going for my 3rd surgeory. At this point I wanted more of a curve in my nose going upward ,lifted b/c it kind drooped and a lump/bump taken more down on the right side.He convinced me instead to add a graft on the left side to help even out the right side. The graft/cartlidge was taken from my left ear.I expressed that I was happy with the left side of my nose and really wanted the right side taken down to match the left side. But he is the expert so I agreed and went with his recommendation. What happened was I ended up with a BIG lump/bump on my left side that looks blanched(as I am of east indian decent-light brown skin),lost support in my ear as no ear phones stay in my ear other than the kind that go around the ear, b/c of where the cartlidge was taken from.

I still do not like the fact that right side needs to be taken down.It is still bigger than where the graft was added to the left side.I can see what his vision was.But I would have preferred the right side being taken down to match the left side as I liked the left side. But now my focus is on this blanched looking lump/bumps on the left side.

So after a 4th surgery he agreed to reduce the bump lump he placed on the left side I never wanted anyway.Nonethess afte the 4th surgery it is still there.I look worse now.He has been very nice.

What i realized through all this has been there is no harmony and balance to my nose. Before he placed the graft I would say my nose was attractive but could have used some refinement. Now it looks like a parrot, lumpy, bumpy and not natural. He also he wanted to keep my nose within my heritage????I realize what he wanted was not what i wanted.

Other than the intial cost for the surgery he has done the 2 revisions at no cost. But I have lost time off work, lied to friends family and disappeared after the surgeries.Having a surgery once, twice o.k. but I am sooo embarrassed now.I definetly know this lump/bump has to be taken down or removed. It should never have been done b/c I didn't want it,need it and look worse now.His vision was different than mine.True he has the experience but I have to live with the look I like in the end suited to my ethnicity or not.Other than my original surgey when I was 19 I have had 3 revisions with him.

The pro was that my nose did improve and rhinoplasty is wonderful. The second revision is what changed that b/c the surgeon didwhat he wanted and not what I wanted.I did the rhinoplasty to look more attractive and increase my self esteem which it did.

I don't know what to do.Go for other consults or let him try to take down the lump bump he placed. It is complicated now and he has the whole history.I would love some feedback as this consumes my thoughts and affects my self esteem.Other than my nose I feel I am attractive and really have no underlying emotional issues. But I place a lot of focus of beauty on the nose as it is the centre of the face.

Because he didn't listen to me.The nose he wanted was not what I wanted. Now he is trying to remove what he placed.

Your story confirms my belief that communications with your surgeon and meeting with the surgeon several times to agree on the final result is important. Also seeking an experienced Board Certified PS is very important. My recommendation is to see Dr B GUYURON Chairman Department of Plastic surgery at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio,USA.He will be able to help you
Thanks for the reply.I gather he has a lot of experience with revision rhinoplasty. This is now becoming risky and frightening to say the least. How would I get a hold of him?
I am pretty angry with the outcome of my surgery considering my plastic surgeon made it seem easy. I am curious... If my Dr. said " THE COST OF YOUR SURGERY IS "5900" and includes and touch ups needed", before I had my primary rhinoplasty does he have a right to charge me an additional 2000 dollars for anesthesia? He never specified I had to pay for anesthesia. I don't think this is right!
Your story to similar to mine.I paid $7000.00 for my revision surgery 13 yrs later with a new dr. The revision showed little difference. He agreed to revise at no charge and this is when he did his own thing and added grafts and messed it all up.I went back a year later and he said he would take down remove the grafts and charge me $2000.00 for the anesthesia and yet the grafts still show like lump/bumps and looked blanched and I am of brown skin.Where he removed cartilede in my ear for the graft no ear phones fit as the support of the ear is lost.I look worse. This will be my 5th revision surgery if I undetake it. The reason your surgeon charged you the anesthesia fee is so he would not incur any loss b/c he would then have to pay the anesthesiologist.
Technically we prob could take them to court because they told us free touchups they never specifically told us we had to pay for the anesthesia right? My nose hardly looks any different than b4... whatta rip off! I don't even know why I did it I was always pretty attractive... :(.
Actually the anesthetic is always a separate fee.He just didn't discuss it and left you believing it was included.Be happy b/c if you don't see much change and it was just loss of money, money can be remade. But if he altered it in a way you wouldn't have liked, now you would be in a worse situation. That's where I am now.I looked better b4 he went and did what he wanted. Now I don't trust him and anyone going is is going to reluctant and will say the foundation is not good to work with with so much scar tissue formed etc....So it could be worse for you and it's not.Blessing for you in a way.I hope you can get some closure emotionally. That's what's important now. Regards,
Yea I'm going to argue with him when I see him... and possibly get some legal advice from a lawyer... I have mail sent to me in hotmail by him stating that the cost was $5880, "including" touchups... That's def lying... We'll see... My nose doesn't need much work as of now just some cortisone to get rid of the scar tissue that formed and the deviated septum..
He also never made me sign anything stating that I had to pay for the anesthetic fee...
I asked him how much it was going to cost... He responded: Hi Ralph. Price is 5600 plus gst. Includes surgery and any touchups if needed
