Since birth my right ear was missing a fold in the...

Since birth my right ear was missing a fold in the cartilage which caused it to protrude. For years this caused me to be very insecure and I would never where my hair back or up. If I went swimming I would quickly put my wet hair over my ear. For the most part I just dealt with my insecurity in silence and I think most people didn't even notice because I was very aware of the fact it stuck out and would make a conscious effort to cover it. However, a few years ago while on vacation at a resort, I was enjoying some beverages with friends in the pool when some drunken idiot decided he would point out to EVERYONE that my one year stuck out more than the other! I was mortified, it was always something I was embarrassed about and to have someone acknowledge outright was very hurtful.

After that point I decided to research Otoplasty, I'd gone for an intial Consultation with surgeon in Mississauga and I just didn't feel completely at ease with this individual from the get go. So I went back online and continued to do research, I went to a clinic in town that actual refers people to Dr. Jugenberg and she gave such rave reviews and said don't ask me, go onlilne and see for yourself. His reviews were amazing and I was even willing to drive to Toronto to meet him even though I live an hour and half away. I was really impressed with the clinic and the staff and Dr. Jugenberg himself, the only issue I had was the cost. It was significantly higher than what I was originally quoted from my initial consultation and other doctors in my area. Being a single female living alone I didn't exactly have the funds on hand. I explained this on a follow up call from the clinic. Less than a week later and to my absolute surprise, Dr. Jugenberg had agreed to match the price I was quoted from my initial consultation with another doctor! I was ecstatic and booked my surgery immediately!

The surgery itself was quick and painless. I was given T3's for pain and took them regularly and only had minor discomfort. I had to wear a headband for the first or so 24/7, but after that it was basically in the evenings only and I picked up some cute lululemon headbands so it just looked like I went to work out. You need to do this to keep the ear in the new position, but also protect the ear from injury as there are stitches that are placed permanently within the year to create the fold and also stitches on the outside of the ear (these fall out eventually). My ear was really red and swollen for a few weeks, once the redness subsided it was still a bit swollen for another few weeks and this is all normal.

The benefits of the procedure totally outweight the costs, surgery, recovery. I now wear my hair up to the gym (never did that!), I get out of the shower and slick my hair back. I can't wait for summer to do my slow motion bay watch moves at the beach!
