I am age 74 and have been thinking about getting a total face and neck lift for the past 10 years. I know the recovery is slow and very painful....have talked with others and feel their pain. I am very healthy for my age and do a lot of dancing and interact with young people. Want to look better.

Six days and counting. I try to keep busy with activities every day so as not to dwell constantly on my special date of March 1. Am I ever nervous!!! I remember after my hysterectomy 20 years ago I had no appetite for several days and only could tolerate Ensure drink and some baby foods. I wonder how it will be this time.

why have a not been listed on the calendar for march 1st?

Tomorrow at this timed I will be under the knife.  Talked with my anesthesiologist yesterday who reassured me about the safety of anesthesia.  He also said he would shoot some pain meds into my IV.  Hope it is morphine, but I didn't ask.  I told him how nervous I was about the pain.  He said I would wake up to pain.  He told me a positive attitude was really important.  I check into the surgery tomorrow at 6:30 am.  Prep will take at least an hour.  I hope I don't wake up to "the pain from hell" as someone posted.  I keep thinking about that post.

two days ago (tuesday, the 5th of march) i went to my ps for a post op visit.  on the way there i noticed a tightening in my heart area....my ps told me to go IMMEDIATELY to the Emergency Department at the local facility (where, incidentally, i am a regular volunteer in the ER)....anyway i waited 11 hours (after my initial ekg which was ok) until i was able to get a room.....had every test imaginable and there is nothing wrong with my heart including no floating emboli ready to do their damage in the brain, heart or lung area.  heart is perfectly healthy....i'm guessing it is all stress related as i tend to be a very nervous 74-year-old woman....here is a picture of my latest look on day 6 post-op....pain is not horrible at the moment....only a slight headache on my upper left-side of forehead.....

*****

well, i'm age 74, had a facelift on march 1 and am doing quite well today on day #8 post-op.  i read what doctors' had to say about this "age issue" and i know that it all depends on the condition of your skin...i never smoked and rarely go out in the sun....

Hi everyone.... today is number ten post-op......

hi everyone....

today is number ten post-op....saw my doctor today and most of my stitches were removed....he wanted to make sure i followed through with my regular doctor and also my heart doctor. he noticed that my right ear was inflammed on the outside and he prescribed keflex.

pain is minimal...not really pain, just a bit of discomfort....i take valium at night which really helps me get a good night's sleep. also not having to sleep anymore in a sitting position is very helpful...my back was beginning to hurt....

i was wearing earrings when i went in for my visit, but was told it was too soon and so i removed them.....

i don't have more pictures to post at this time since there isn't any significant change in how i look....the most dramatic change was my chin and i've already posted that picture...

what the surgery didn't accomplish was to get rid of my dark circles surrounding my eyes....always had this...it's hereditary....i've been checking on different concealers....any advice would be appreciated...i think i've tried every brand on the market, but people are always asking me, "did you have a bad night?"

Just a little setback here and i hope nothing...

just a little setback here and i hope nothing serious....during my followup visit yesterday my doctor noted that my right ear looked swollen and infected, so i'm on keflex (antibiotic) 4 times a day for a week....it's hard to keep a sterile home when you have 2 cats and 2 dogs who know something's wrong and always want to jump on your bed and be by your side.....

i just ordered from a magazine i got in the mail (usually throw these ads in the trash)...this one caught my eye, though...the magazine is called "Coolibar" and it featured all types of hats with sunscreen of 50+ imbedded into the fabric. i bought 4 hats because whenever i apply sunscreen to my face (even the one for babies) it burns terribly....i posted a picture of one of them on facebook and my sister said i looked like a terrorist because of the shape of the hat...only my eyes were visible. i told her that particular hat i would only wear in the backyard when gardening and weeding.....

does anyone remember this? on this site, there were ads on the right-hand side of screen...one was about a lip therapy which when applied daily would build up collagin for fuller lips...i ordered one tube and never heard back with a confirmation number or anything at all...should have written it down, and can't find the name of the company...can anyone help me?

i need some advice....my doctor said i need to clean my wounds on top of head and behind ears using only soap, water and massaging with my fingers very gently....i've been doing this for several days now, but nothing is coming loose....one place in particular on top of my head sends a shocking sensation throughout my head when touched....can anyone here relate to this situation?

is there a way to rearrange the order of my pictures? the last two are pre-op and i wanted them at the beginning rather than at the end of my series of pictures. also the last 4 pictures i posted i forgot to label....would appreciate help from someone more of a computer "teckie" than i am. still have a lot of "gunk" on top of my head and behind my right ear which i'm trying to wash away every day. some of the yuckie stuff seems to be hanging by a string, but when i pull on it i get a shocking sensation throughout my head....never mind the picture labeling question....think i already figured it out

adding a new picture today....this was after a very much needed haircut....still feeling really good...only experiencing tightness and numbness but no pain...i'm wondering if it's because i didn't have any liposuction done...i'm very thin (too thin by some peoples' standards), but i'm unable to gain weight even when i eat like a pig.....

doing quite well after 6 weeks (my facelift was on march 1)....one thing I noticed is that if I look straight ahead there is no "turkey neck", but when I bend my chin toward my neck the "turkey neck" returns in full force....so I must remember to keep my head level and looking forward without bending. I feel a lot of nerve reconnecting which isn't really painful....just a zap either by the front of my ears, forehead....no feeling still on top of head...one thing the doctor didn't correct (and I don't know if it's even correctible in my case) are the dark circles and purple veins surrounding my eyes which have a sunken look right now....I've tried every coverup out there without really good results....I read somewhere that a face crème with added caffeine can diminish dark circles and shrink purple veins....so I tried a home remedy.....I crushed caffeine tablets with a mortar and pestle and added face crème....it seemed to work the first day, but today no, it didn't....anyone have any solution to dark circles/purple veins around eye...I won't be putting any more pictures for awhile, because there isn't any significant difference....besides my partner says i'm too "vein" or is it "vane" always wanting my picture taken.....

As my face is "thawing out" I'm experiencing a bit...

As my face is "thawing out" I'm experiencing a bit of pain, but nothing bad enough to take pain pills. I had an infection (open sore) behind one of my ears, but it is clearing up now with a bit of Neosporin. Tomorrow, I'm having my hair colored and hi-lited, so will post another picture at that time. The last time I had my hair shampooed at my hair dresser she dug in a bit too deep with her fingernails on my scalp where my long scar is and it became slightly inflamed, so I am washing my own hair tomorrow before I have it colored.

Adding two new pictures....first one shows me in...

adding two new pictures....first one shows me in square dance outfit ready again for dance....trying to show off my newly hi-lited hair but it didn't show...next picture in back yard by artichoke plant shows it too bright...my hair is actually dark with blondish-brown high-lights here and here, but not everywhere, lol

Saw my doctor and he said i'm healing well...just...

saw my doctor and he said i'm healing well...just a bit of an open sore behind one ear....he said that since my face is so thin I could use a filler in my cheek area which is something like juvederm, but more permanent....I really don't want any more work done....i'm happy with my results...i'm age 74 and this is it....no more....he said the filler wouldn't help the dark circles under my eyes (an inherited trait)....I've tried every kind of concealer on the market but the darkness remains...

just added even more lightener to hair trying to look brighter since I cannot do much for the dark circles under my eyes....want to have the onlooker concentrate on my hair rather than my eyes.....still have wrinkles around my eyes when I smile....if I don't smile and look serious there are no wrinkles....oh well...you can't win them all, lol....

3 months post op

my doctor liked my results at 3 months post-op and wanted permission to put my before and after pictures on his website....so I said "fine", signed a release, and received a free facial....

Marta, Just wanted to tell you that I have scheduled a combined breast lift and tummy tuck for July 10, 2013 and even though I have had other surgeries years ago I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF THE PAIN, I have heard so many stories of the tummy tuck pain. I am also getting a touch up face lift in Oct. I hope I do as well as you....you look fabulous I'm so happy for you.

Hi Betti, I have heard tummy tucks are very painful. I am 69 and had a full facelift: upper lower eyes, brow lift and chemical peel a year ago. I am allergic to pain meds - they make me very sick - so got through on Tylenol. Pain was not that bad and the worst of it over in a week. It is the stiffness under the chin and neck that remains. I can still feel it. I swell easily so that was another long issue to resolve. It took my eyes 8 months to look fully round and normal. At one year I can see NO scars anywhere and the neck stiffness is going. Avoid all salt while you heal and read labels for sodium. I had a nurse for the first three days in a hotel and that was great. Recovery times vary widely so don't compare to others. Don't get discouraged if you are on the slower end. There can be ups and downs for months. Good luck !

Bett....I sent you a private message but you will love how you look after your lift. It's amazing to see yourself getting younger by the day. It was the best thing I ever did for myself...like sevendecades said everyone handles it differently but you will be fine. I researched a lot to make sure I had a good doctor, that is a must.

You look great! I wanted to tell you about a product for ubder eye darkness and prominent eye veins. I have been using this now post facelift (4/2012). I started using it a few years ago to cover up post face fuller bruising. Recommended by a plastic surgeon. I use Medium. It has two shade colors and a lightener in the case. Just dab on as you would any concealer. True Cosmetics Protective Illuminating Concealer Easy to find on Internet.

Thank you, SevenDecades. I will definitely give this concealer a try. I must have about 20 different concealers that don't really do the job.

Hi Bett031, I had a mid facelift and neck lift. My pain was minimal. However, at nearly 3 months post-op I do have tightness and pulling sensations in my neck. I also have a stinging sensation on my cheeks when I wash my face. Had a hematoma on my neck early on and still have a bruise there. I didn't think the pain was bad at all. Took my medicine regularly and got lots of rest. Let me know how you do. Take care. Leslie

pancake makeup is a lifesaver. i've seen reviews posted of several women who have had full facelifts. Also, everyone really does heal differently. You may have no complications at all. Anxious to hear how it goes for you, and wishing you all the best. I would so do it again!
