I am a 38-year old African American and I have had laser hair removal twice. Both experiences were the same and I recommend the procedure for unwanted body hair.
Everybody should be aware that laser hair removal HURTS. I don’t mean a tingle or a little pin prick... it feels like a very bad wasp sting happening over and over again. Afterwards your body will react to the pain and get hot and you’ll feel like your skin is burning from the inside. You can take aspirin and use numbing cream but this will not clear up all of the pain so be prepared for it. These are normal reactions to the laser. You can also expect a minor rash, maybe even some bubbling of your skin, but in a week or two everything will clear up and you’ll be hair free.
I have several friends who have done this and they’ve all had different results even though a few of them go to the same spa. Much of it depends on your skin type and the type of hair you’re removing. Pubic hair is very different from the lighter, thinner body hair on your stomach, for example.
The best advice I can give is to give laser hair removal a try... make it a part of your skincare routine for best results. I have an entire skincare regimen, including chemical peels, exfoliating, and spa treatments. I am able to fit laser hair removal into this routine. It’s a natural part of my routine now. I think that has enabled me to be successful and stick with the follow-up treatments so far.
