I had 4 IPL treatments about 4-6 weeks apart for mild age spots and a pigment scar on my cheek bone where I fell years ago. I had been using Glycolic products in the past to slowly fade this scar with great results but it is a slow process. I chose IPL in the hope to finally (and quickly) remove the final traces of this pigment scar and even tone the rest of my face. HUGE HUGE ( arms up in the air and waving eratically... for emphasis) waste of time and money. I saw roughly a 10% improvement after the third treatment then after the fourth it got much worse, I was booked in for a fifth but cancelled as I was afraid of doing more damage (and stupidly paying for the privilege). Not only is the pigment still there but has gotten worse in some places, I also now have dark spots where I never use to have any, they magically appeared from nowhere, my face looks dirty (YES I use sunblock). I am back to where I was about 2 years ago. Reverting to my peels and glycolic products. I expect it will take about a year to reverse the damage but I'm happy to wait as I feel I'm more in control of the results. I have also began taking Vitamin E, Silica, Zinc and Omega 3 to boost the skin from the inside as who knows what damage has been done internally, I am also applying coconut oil to my face which I hear is supposed to be excellent for the skin (can't hurt).
Overall NOT impressed with the IPL, TOTALLY overrated procedure with unpredictable results, I wish I hadn't subjected my skin to such lunacy. Big lesson, helps put things into perspective.

At the end of the day the clinics are in the business of making money and will tell you what you want to hear, we're all vain to some extent. You need to do your own thorough research and evaluate whether your skin problem is worth the risk.
