Finally Getting It Done! - Santa Cruz, CA

After wanting this for 10 yrs, I finally have a date set. I'm 60 yrs young and a 38 G. So tired of all the neck and shoulder pain. Not afraid at all. I had a tummy tuck a few yrs ago and the pain was not bad at all. Husband is super supportive, which really helps. I hope to be a C cup approx. when done. Looking forward to losing the grooves in my shoulders.
Hi there! I was the same size as you, and I'm 56 years old. I could only be reduced to a D but it's so good to be smaller! You might find my review helpful to get an idea what you might go through. Best wishes!

Good luck lady. I just did mine (14 Oct), went from 40DDD to 40C...WONDERFUL! Best wishes, will be watching for your post op pics and news ;-)

Hey there fellow 38G!!!  Back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain have not returned in 5 weeks since my sx.  Grooves still there.  Hopefully they will shrink.  HOPEFULLY pinched nerve IN SHOULDER will release and I'll be able to hold a pen and write again!

10 days until surgery!

So far, I'm not nervous. Probably too busy at work so I can take off 3 weeks! I have my pre-op in 3 days. So many things to remember to discuss with my surgeon. Thankful for this forum to help me make lists of my questions. Thank you all. I will update again after pre-op. Bye!
3 weeks, great, you'll be glad you have that time. Ya, I wasn't really nervous either, once I made the decision. Until the nite before, so I took a Xanax so I could calm down and sleep. This is gonna be such a good thing for you. Hugs and keep,us posted.

Pre-op today!

It's becoming real...excited and sleeping a little more fitfully.
So many things to do still. Get prescriptions filled, clean the house, 4 more days to work, and groceries. I'll be glad when it's over. Pre-op went fine. Had to have blood drawn, urine test, and she did a breast exam and an all over once over. Told doc I really want to be at the biggest a C cup. She thinks it is realistic.yay! I got a lesson in how to deal with the drains. They should only be in one day. The surgery center changed my time from 6:30 am to 7am arrival time. Not a big deal. I will update again before I go! This is going to be great!

Thank you all!

I forgot to say thank you to you all! I feel much more prepared for the experience since I have you all on my side! Xxx
I second the comments made by ty5740! Especially the"Emend" pill, I had it and also did not have event a hint of nausea. Rest/sleep and LOTS of water are your "best friends" for the first three or four days. After that I felt pretty good, and took a nap every afternoon for the first three weeks. Oh ya, and my sister (the nurse) reminded me to take nice big deep breaths (4-6) every few hours when your awake. It helps make sure your lungs recoup from the intubation (and not get sick/pneumonia). You are gonna do great ;-)
Reply
I am 9 days post op and feeling like myself today. for sure nothing to fear as in the operation itself. Try and get a good nausea pill such as "Emend" to take 2 hours prior - I had no hint of nausea. Get ready to get cozy and rest and recuperate. As the other 97% of ladies so pleased to have got this done - good luck - and here we are for questions.

Tomorrow is the day!

Finally heading to surgery tomorrow at 7:30am. Talked to the anesthesiologist tonight. It's a woman and she was very nice. I feel better just talking to her. Kind of getting a little nervous. Took my shower tonight with antibacterial soap and again in the morning. House is clean and I am ready as I can be. Bought groceries, did the laundry. Lets do this!!

Took these pictures the night before surgery.

Can't wait to have small boobs!
Hope all goes well today - we are all waiting for you on here. Best wishes

Wishing you all the best. Your scheduled time is a few hours before mine (11:30am check in for me) so I'll be thinking of you and jealous you're moving ahead earlier. I know things are going to be fantastic for you. Congratulations on your decision - can't wait to hear how it goes for you. ALL THE BEST... JennyD

All done!

I got to the surgery center at 7:30 am, was put into a gown, marked up by my doctor, met the anasthesiologist, got my iv, and off I went. Don't remember anything until after surgery of course. Had some pain, but the nurses were great about fixing me up. Was home by 2:30 pm. Haven't seen them yet, but going to get my drains out in the morning. No pain really. I will post after shots later. Thank goodness for this site and all the support. Xxx
Yay!!! congrats, happy healing! keep us posted!

I got to take a shower today and I like what I see! No pain really, just sensitive to the touch. No zingers...so glad I did this!
Congrats, how great that you aren't having a lot of pain. Continued good healing ;-)

How much did she take out?

I forgot to mention that my PS took 700g out of each breast! Looks like I will be pretty small! That's what I wanted and I have no regrets.
Neat job, looking very good.

Good luck with the healing process, keep us updated ;)

I had 600 grams out of one and 800 out of the other (one was bigger). Don't worry, at first I thought I would be smaller than I'd asked for (C cup), but as they settled in, that's EXACTLY what they've turned out to be, and I'm almost 6 weeks post op. YES, I'm sure you'll be perfectly happy when done. Looking great ;-)

4days post op

I'm now only taking Tylenol during the day and my heavy duty percoset at night so I can sleep better since I'm a side sleeper and that's out for now.the only pain I have is if I have to bend over at all. Very sensitive boobies. The patch behind my ear for nausea worked great. Still have it on. In 3 days I have the stitches out around the nipples. Taking the drains out didn't hurt at all, just heard a suction sound and they were out.

I am off work until the 9th so hopefully I will be ready to get back to it. I can lift my arms up but if I bend over to pick something up, it's not good.feels like they will fall off. I will update more in a few days. Happy healing!
Yes - it the beginning sitting up and leaning forward are the worst. Reading your post just reminded me of the pains that I got in my left breast when I sat up which I do not get any more - yay! You are doing great. Definitely a good idea to take the pain killer at bed time. I am amazed that I have managed to sleep on my back for 15 nights - thought that would be much harder. best wishes

For sure. I thought it would be awful to sleep on my back, but it's been no problem. I bought a back rest that is adjustable and surround myself with fluffy pillows.

Strange to shower...

This morning when I got in the shower, I had to look down to make sure I had actually taken all my clothes off! Lol Very weird feeling like I'm wearing a strong corset style bra, but I have nothing on! Also, there were no giant boobs swaying...????
Congrats on the shower, only we know how big of a deal this really is. I'm two weeks post op and in the shower this morning I bent over to shave my legs and WOW, there weren't boobs getting smashed between my chest and my leg! So happy! It's the little things!

lol - it must be nice not having your boobs box - I am happy for you and am looking forward to my surgery next month - thanks for the smile :-)

They sure are zipped up tight - weird!

2nd post op appt. today

Had some of the stitches removed from around the nipples, followed by steri-tape application. Been having a little more pain along the stitches under by breasts. Doctor said I'm doing too much walking around, not enough relaxing. I can see now that this is going to take more than just a couple of weeks! Your pain level will tell you of you've done too much. I will be "good" and kick back much more. Sometimes I just feel guilty for not doing enough...gotta stop that way of thinking.
Congratulations!! You are looking great!! Yes, you must rest!! When I didn't rest, my breasts would hurt even more! It does tell you that in it's own painful way. LOL!!

Side boob's still there.

My surgeon did not do any lipo under my arms and it lookslike I still have big side boobs. I can see that is gonna bug me so lipo will have to be done. Anybody else have the same problem?
Hi there, sorry about the side boob problem, this is new to me. Could you possibly post a photo?? I am having surgery Jan 3rd and my surgeon has said he may use lipo. If I understood the side boob thing better I would be able to discuss it with him and make my wishes known. Hope you get sorted to what you want.
Reply
Yepper, on the side boobs. I will prob do lipo on mine as well. Gonna wait until 6 month mark though, til they are completely settled out size wise. Hope this helps.

Sore boob shot

Maybe the swelling will go down enough?? When I asked my Dr. about lipo with the surgery, she said she just pulls the fat forward? I guess we will see if its enough for me.
Hello, you're really early with your healing so I wouldn't worry too much yet about their shape. They will change a lot over the next few months. I know mine did! I'm surprised if you have fat under the arms that your doctor didn't address that during surgery, though. Hang it there and best wishes!

My doctor said some people have more fat under their arms than others. Guess I'm one of them. Time will tell if enough is gone for my liking.

What's this feeling???

Finally at 12 days post op, I had a great energy day. I was sick of laying in bed day after day. So today I did a few errands with my grandson driving me. He's 17. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever feel "normal" again. Yes, the breasts are sore as heck, but I went about my day like all was fine. Now tonight, I feel great! Made dinner, husband changed my sheets. I was searching all over this site for when I was supposed to feel better while going about the day, not just laying there. Well, my answer is: Today! Happy day! I must learn patience...:)
Awesome!!! Recovery is so individualized. Go at your own pace and be kind to yourself!

Good for you, so glad you had a good day. And so early on. I did too, a few good days in a row, then tired out again. It's a hit of a roller coaster. All I can say, is follow your body, it will tell you what to do...and NOT to do. Go when ya feel like it, rest when you need. In the first 3-4 weeks, I found that doing my busy stuff early in the day, and taking a nap in the afternoon REALLY worked well (if you are able to). Again, happy you are up and about. Continued good healing, big (((HUGS))).

Sleeping comfortably...

I thought I would post a couple pics of my back rest. It has really helped from day one post op. I'm a side sleeper, but this has made sleeping on my back night after night totally do-able!
The pillow arrangement picture is great to see. thanks! and happy healing to you.

Another post op appt. today

Ok.today she took all the steri-tape off and took some more stitches out in nipples. I have a small blister under each breast. Doc is not worried about it. Under left breast is more healed than right. She has me putting antibiotic ointment on them with a sterile q tip and covering it with gauze.
She noticed my lower half of each breast is very red. Not bruised, just red. She said it is my body's response to surgery and it will subside. Doesn't bother me. My breasts are not pretty right now. Scaly, red, scabby...I'm not worried. They will be beautiful soon enough!
That is one cosy set up. I love it!

I like your attitude and good bed set up! In deed nothing to worry about - the body sorts itself out if we give it the right support.

So that is what zingers feel like!

Ever since I saw my surgeon yesterday and she took the tape off, I have had much more soreness in my breasts. And the zingers! Oh my! Ouch, but only for short moments throughout the day. Nothing we women can't handle! Think I'll lay low tomorrow. Been doing too much....again!
Take it easy, everything looks really healthy so don't take chances. I am 36 - 38 G and hope to have as much removed as you have had, my contract says 500g+

I just kept telling my doctor that at my age I don't even care about boobs so please take me small. She did. I am so glad. I knew she could do it because of all I've read on this site. Good luck. Less than a month to go for you!

Thanks, 27 days to go and counting!

Tried something different

After seeing how oozy my below breasts blisters were, I decided to sleep without my bra last night. I just had gauze taped over the open parts and ointment on them. They look better today and I feel better! Someone on here had mentioned that they had done that. Thank you!

Revelation...

Tonight my husband and I went out to eat. As I was sitting at the table, I looked down and noticed how I had so much more room between me and the table! It's moments like that...yep!
How funny, I have weepy spots underneath too. I also have done same thing...hadn't read it anywhere, just tried it. It DOES seem to help. Glad to hear it worked for someone else. Continued good healing ;-)

Tes, despite the importance of dressings and bras, there really is nothing like a bit of exposure to the air to dry things up and aid healing.

Anybody else on here ever have this issue?

The lower half of my breasts are very red. Doctor doesn't seem worried but asked me today if they hurt. I have no idea what to expect since this is my first breast reduction! Yes they are sore and feel swollen. I see my doctor every week. Do you all have that many post op appointments? She tells me it happens sometimes and is my body's reaction to surgery. Something about my blood vessels over reacting. Sure would like to hear from you all. Thanks.
Hey there, I posted pics of my red/trouble spots so you could see. They are doing better and so will yours ;-)

You have really helped ease my anxiety! Thank you!

You commented "I see my doctor every week. Do you all have that many post op appointments? "... my surgery was on a Wednesday and the first week I had follow up visits Thursday (yes, the next morning), Saturday (yes on a Saturday), Monday and Wednesday. The second week I had follow ups on Monday and Wednesday. This is the third week and I had just one appt... my next appt is 2 weeks from now. So yes, I had far more follow ups than "normal" and that's how my PS does it. It's very reassuring to be seen by the surgeon and/or his nurse this often... and both my healing and recovery have been going extremely well.

I also had red lower breasts. I had them for probably three months. My PS said not to worry. It looked like sunburn but wasn't hot or angry. Just red. One day I noticed they were just gone.

Tough week...:(

Last week I worked full time. I do hair. Boy did I pay for that! So sore I held my breasts when I walked to make sure they didn't move. I have hard lumps in my breasts and thought massaging them would help. WRONG! I was in pain from doing that, not just the usual soreness. A couple days ago, I decided to not touch them at all, and I feel a lot better. What a roller coaster this is! So glad I have the next 3 days off. I think I will just rest and hope I turn the corner on the soreness. On the positive side, most of my scars have fallen off and they look better. Still red, but that will change eventually. Even after all this, I would do it again! :)
You look great. I think doing hair must be very tough with the amount of time your arms are raised, but at least you will not be fighting to keep your boobs out of your client's face all the time!!!!!
Reply
Yes! No more wet boob from it hanging on my clients forehead as I shampoo!

Your breasts look fabulous - happy for you. Yes it is a roller coaster - always something else. I am 8 weeks today - feeling pretty good - still some swelling and tenderness even now...........Love it and enjoying having small boobs greatly.

I'm looking forward to watching you heal, I'm so happy to see how your body has improved, your back must feel so much better with all that weight removed from your breast. Happy healing SalonMom :)

Almost 7 weeks post op

I hardly have any soreness anymore, except in my right nipple because I have a big lump of necrosis under the nipple. I can work all I want and also am back at the gym. That feels great! Doctor saw me at 6 weeks and I don't need to see her for another month. So worth it. Love these small boobs!
Hi there, my BR was the day before yours, so we are almost boobie sisters lol! You look wonderful and I,m glad to see you are feeling great. I did smile when I read you had no zingers! Of course that was early on. Aren't they fun ??

Monterey Plastic Surgeon

So far, I think she is awesome. Great bedside manner. I hear only good things about her. So this is my review after surgery and several follow up appts. She is very gentle. When she took the drains out, I didn't even feel it! She answers all my questions. She has a great sense of humor. I chose a great one!
