Final Update

I'm a couple of weeks from finishing my last and final month. I didn't break out during my treatment and I did see a reduction in scarring. My bumps underneath my skin however are still the same. They are micro cysts that would need to be extracted and the Dr. said he wouldn't recommend I do anything about them especially now since scarring is likely during and right after treatment with Accutane. I will need to wait until at least 6 months after finishing Accutane. We'll see but I'm not just going to live with them forever! =/

Start of 3rd Month

Had a visit with my derm 4 days ago and as I suspected a lot of the bumps are milia. Accutane doesn't really treat milia but the doctor said that it should at least helps them come up more to the surface since Accutane helps shed dead skin. He recommended I address them after I'm done with Accutane by doing acne facials with extractions and continuing on some sort of topical like Retin-A or Tazorac. He was expecting me to have had an initial breakout by now so since I haven't he said my treatment may only last 4 months. I've heard that patient with a shorter course of Accutane are more likely to break out again so I will talk to him about leaving my treatment for 6 months even if I'm no longer breaking out. As for changes in my skin since the last time I haven't seen anything too noticeable. I went to my appointment without makeup and the derm noted that my scarring, that previously looked more like brown spots, are now red was a good sign and I should see them lighten up in time. I hope he's right!

Start of week 10

I'm starting my 10th week and I'm seeing very subtle differences nothing to get super excited about. I was kinda hoping my forehead would have smoothed out more by now. Cheeks are getting better and scarring is decreasing slightly but I still have a ways to go. Happy with it so far but hoping for much more improvement. As for side effects just dryness in the lips primarily. I haven't had a lot of peeling or dryness in my face in the last two weeks. I will say though that staying out of the sun is important. I can tell that my skin gets really red on days that I'm running around running errands just walking to and from my vehicle. Sunscreen is a must with this medication and no trips to the beach or theme parks for me this summer. Some joint stiffness so I just started taking glucosamine to see if that helps. Still work out 2-3 times a week.

On a side note, I had blood work done by my primary care physician and my cholesterol level was a little higher than the normal range. I read online in several places that Accutane can do that so perhaps something to keep in mind.

I posted pics this time.
