61 and feeling 30 again - San Antonio, TX

I have lost over 80 lbs and now have much excess skin in abdominal area, well other areas also but that is another topic. At 61 I feel almost silly to be spending money to get rid of loose skin and fat, however, I am going for my pre-op today at 2:30 and having the tummy tuck on Halloween. My objective with this procedure is simple, I want to tuck my shirt in and see my belt. It has been a long time since that has been possible for me. I originally planned to have this in December but yesterday got an e-mail from my Doctor's office about a Halloween special and could not resist the $1000 savings, my costume this year will be a flat tummy suit. I am gratefull that this is going to happen so soon, not giving me a lot of time to worry and reconsider all of this. I know it is best for not only my physical health but also my mental health in improving my external self image.

got the call.. now scheduled for 10am monday.. 66 hours to go. feeling really emotional about this, mostly anxiety I think. Taking all the pre-op vitamins and picked up all of the post-op meds. Starting anti-biotics sunday. My weight loss came as a result of changing food choices rather than dieting in a formal sense, I have no idea how many calories that I consume and have never felt hungry. I will be glad to share how this came about with anyone that is interested.
I will post a few pre-op photos this weekend, though I must say before hand that they are not pretty, something about gravity and loose skin.

one day before TT started anti-biotics today, seem to be retaining fluid. could this be from the pills I am taking? Oh well, went for a long ride on the Harley yesterday since I will not be able to that again for a while. Today will be very busy trying to finish up a few projects, actually grateful that it is a full day since that way I have less time to think about tomorrow. Knowing me though, I am sure it will be given plenty of thought. One of the projects is doing my before pics and posting here.

13 hours to go and feel like a cat on a hot tin roof.. I do hope and pray that this is worth it. I do know that it is better to have done this than to do nothing. My wife took the before pictures, just have to post them.

a long day, pain is minimal results look good thru cloths, actually slept in bed this afternoon, thanks you Dr Young. Took a walk and do not feel terribly hunched over. I am sure there will be adventures along the way but think this is a good thing I have done for me... oh.. when my wife came to pick me up she was dressed in a very nice Nurse Uniform.. I am so very blessed..

First morning Post-op. very little discomfort. I was plesantly suprised to receive a phone call from my Doctor last night at 9 pm checking on my condition. The drains seem to be working well, my wife is being wonderful about taking care of them. It is hard to tell at this point how much is gone but it appears to be all I had hoped for and more, will post pictures later today.

Took off bandages this am, I am very pleased not to find a lot of redness so far. It was pretty sore last night and I am still not sleeping but this will all pass soon I hope. I am amazed at how much skin was removed and am loking forward to posting some post-op photos..

3 days post op. BM is the big problem today but I am hoping the stopping pain meds will help with this. Actual pain from TT is minimal, just some stiffness when first standing up.. after all it is only 3 days. I hope everyong else is doing well

4 days post op and stsrting to feel like joining the world again. Yesterday was very painful, not from the TT but from not prepairing enough for the constipation. I do not know what is the correct way to do that but I would suggest asking your doctor how to avoid this if possible. My weight had gone up about 5 lbs in the last days before the TT, I think it was mostly fluid retention from the changes in medication. As of this morning I am 6 lbs below my pre op stable weight and I am expecting this to drop further as the fluid stops draining and my body heals. They removed a lot and I am grateful for all they did. I still have to empty the drains every 5 or 6 hours but it seems to be slowing some now. Special thanks to my wife for doing this task for me and for helping me thru the last few days..Hope all are recovering well.

First return to PS today, all is well and they removed one drain. Healing is going well and I just wish I felt more connected to the world. I just seem to be tired so much and when I do get active I seem to have such little energy. Maybe another week will fix this. Overall I am very satisfied with the whole process, the results are worth the costs and efforts and will only get better as time passes.

2 weeks post op, went to PS yeaterday. The last drain had a clot in it an had started leaking around the incission so they removed it,was still getting 30 to 40 cc per day but I guess it will be ok. Started getting too active and it really kicked my butt so I have backed off for a couple of days. Healing seems to be going as expected with very little pain, swelling comes on as the day goes by. Overall I must say that this has been a very positive experience and the results are definately worth the cost. Good luck and best wishes to others on this path..

4 weeks today, seems like longer. Everything is good except for the tired, rundown feeling. BB is still bleeding when I clean it, was told to use hydrogen-peroxide on a Q-tip, seems to start the bleeding every time. will post more current photo in the next few days.
San Antonio Plastic Surgeon

Dr Young has been very patient and kind, I realize that I am not the normal beautiful young lady that he is used to working on. Kind of like having a Ferrarri mechanic work on a Ford truck. I will add to this after the TT about the actual proceedure.

Dan you are going to feel tired for up to six weeks.  This is a hard process on the body and it takes time to bounce back.  You will get there so hang on.

Hi Dan!   Welcome to RealSelf.

Congratulations on the weight loss.  Unfortunately with that comes the hanging skin.  Been there and done that but you will love the results you are able to obtain with the tuck.   You shouldn't feel silly at all about doing this.  You deserve to look and feel good no matter what the age.   Besides 61 is young and the new 41 these days.  Go for it and be proud.

Only a couple more days and you will be home recovering.  Please do post the before and after pictures; would love to see them.  Also keep us up to date on how you are doing and your recovery process.

We will all be here to cheer you through this:)
