Male Abdominalplasty with Flank Liposuction - Salt Lake City, UT

Well after losing over 100 lbs, I have decided to take the plunge for an abdominalplasty procedure with flank liposuction. I told myself when I started the weight loss journey that if I could do it and achieve the success of getting down to an ideal weight that I would reward myself by spending money on the procedure.

I had my consult appointment last week to see if I was a good candidate for the procedure. The Doctor was great and answered all of my questions. I have been researching the procedure on this site and on the Internet for quite sometime. I did not schedule my surgery at the time of the consult as I wanted time to think about it. I was offered the idea of letting a Resident perform the surgery at a reduced cost with the Dr being present. I thought about this and decided that I would pay more for the Dr to do it and not have to worry about whether the Resident would do a good job. I have researched the Dr and know about her experience, not so much on the Resident.

I called and scheduled my surgery and I am a go for March 13th. I am nervous, excited, scared, and anxious. I appreciate all the reviews on here, especially from the other Men who have done this. I know more and more Men are getting it done. I will post before pictures here soon and write my thoughts as we get closer. We are about 5 weeks away and I want to make sure I am ready.

Well I called and paid for my surgery today. It was due two weeks prior to the surgery date and today marks that two week mark. I guess I am locked in now and getting excited but really nervous as well. So any tips or advice for the next two weeks?

Only a couple of days away. Excited to get ride of the ugly scar below my belly button that was caused by a bad stitch job after I was checked for internal bleeding after an auto accident. Looking forward to the lipo of the flanks and to get rid of all the saggy skin. The weight loss of 110 lbs has been great but so looking forward to this next step!!

Surgery is tomorrow - Check in at 7:45 AM. Any last minute tips or suggestions? I am way nervous but excited at the same time.

Well it is over. I checked in at 7:45AM and then into the OR about 9:00 AM. Surgery last about 4.5 hours. I spent about 2 hours in the recovery room and endured the drive home (1.5 hours) ok. I am keeping on top of the pain medications every 4hours. I have in two drains and a binder on. I won't be able to shower until tomorrow so I have not had the chance to see the results yet. Getting up to go to the bathroom is a chore, I have not had a BM yet. The drains are producing and I spend most of the time in my recliner with my knees bent and pillows supporting them and the rest of my body. I will post pics once I take the binder off for a few minutes when I shower!

Last night I took the binder off for the first time and got the first look at my new stomach. I have to say that I am pretty happy at this point. It all feels numb and I didn't keep the binder off too long. Just long enough to shower which felt great. The drains are a pain to work around. I have been trying to increase the time between taking the pain meds. My recliner has been great to sleep in, I just need help getting in and out of it. Finally had a BM yesterday and that was relief. I took stool softeners to make that easier, but it was still a chore. The coughing hurts and I never knew how much we use our core for stuff. I posted a picture Post OP just after i showered.

Been a fairly good day as I am Post Op Day 5. I have managed to back off heavy duty pain medication almost entirely. I look forward to a daily shower where I can remove the binder and feel warm water. My abdomen feels numb still. The drains are a big pain in the butt when showering and putting on clothes. Helped that I saved some larger size clothing from the "old days". I have more swelling today as you can see from the new picture I posted. I am not sure if it is from not getting the binder as tight as they had it post surgery or what. I see the doctor on the 25th so should only have to have drains in until then. I am hoping that I can stay off any heavy pain medication. I am still sleeping in my recliner and trying to walk around the house more.

Well post op day #8. Things are going well. I am more comfortable wearing a under amour compression shirt under the binder, it helps keep skin dry and not be sweaty and itchy. I still have both drains in and those are most annoying. I can't wait to get them out on the 25th hopefully. I live 2 hours away from the doctor so post surgery appointments are not as frequent as some may be. I am still sleeping in my recliner and will move to my bed once my drains are out. Pretty frustrated with amount of swelling and don't know what I can do differently to make it go down faster. I guess time is what it is going to take. I am still off work and will plan to go back once drains are out. I don't think I can hide them well enough to goto work and be comfortable. Swelling and pain from liposuction areas are a problem but bruising is going away.

Well I am now at Post Op Day #13. I had a visit to the Dr yesterday and got one of my abdominal drains removed. I am glad it was a fast process, but I still have one drain in for a few more days. My doctor does not like to pull the drains tool early. I started back to work today for a few hours. Sitting at my desk and leaning forward to do computer work was a little more of an effort then I thought. With one of my drains out I thought I would be able to try sleeping in my bed. I did not have much success as it does not feel good to lie flat on my back, my core feels too tight. So I am still in my recliner at this point. I think part of the discomfort about lying in bed has to do with the abdominal binder. Swelling is still present and I have resigned myself to that just taking a lot of time to go down. I am getting around ok, but I am anxious to start working out again. I feel lazy not doing much. Overall I am feeling pretty good at this point! Hard to think it has been 2 weeks. I am happy with the results and can't wait to be drain free!!!
