“Hurt like hell, but i'd do it again”
Lip augmentation: Worth it
Pain: Severe
Three years ago I was nearing my wedding and looked at some photos from one of my wedding showers. I was uncomfortable with my lips, I was 36 and they'd become they're thinner than I liked, and when I'm not smiling my 'resting' expression is one of a slight frown due to lines on either side of my mouth.
After much research, I decided to have my lips done with restylane from a doctor who came recommended (he was a GP, not a dermatologist).
The freezing needles took forever to work, and he ended up using about 13 vials, and they hurt brutally (not the doctor's fault, more likely my needle-fear). I mostly didn't feel the restylane injections themselves, and my lips were quite plump when he was done.
Within a few days my lips were at their new, normal looking plumpness; nothing Jolie-like, just natural, younger plumpness. Others noticed I looked refreshed, rested, and happy, but didn't know why. I loved the result, and could easily get by with just a little gloss. My wedding photos were so much better than they would have been - mostly with the candid shots, as I didn't look 'frowny' when I wasn't all smiley.
The total effect lasted at least 6 months, although I noticed a difference for close to a year (perhaps metabolism can effect the time it lasts?). I also found my lips were less prone to dryness for at least a year - a side effect of the fullness? Who knows, but it was a nice bonus. I want to have this done again, despite the intense pain of the needles, but will wait until my spare-change jar comes closer to covering the cost. :)
Summary:
Pros: Looks great, less time and effort spent on lipstick and makeup, a younger appearance and a natural 'happier' look
Cons: Treatment painful due to needle sensitivity, cost
I highly recommend restylane, but do research the doctors/clinics in your area for a professional.
