I had 4 treatments of IPL over the course of several months for melasma. I think there are some minor improvements, but not enough to make me happy. You need to consider if you have dermal or epidermal melasma (woods lamp test) as I think in some spots it made it worse. I did not know there was a difference and when I questioned the office, they said melasma is melasma. I don't believe that is true. I am now going to a second dermatologist for a second opinion. I am also trying a product called Meladerm that does not have hydroquinone in it. It has been 2 weeks and I am seeing some improvement. It is such a frustrating condition and I feel like I have tried everything. As far as IPL, I don't really think it worked for me. You have to be super careful and make sure you are told exactly what type of melasma you have, because I think it can make it worse if you have the dermal type. You can also have a combination of both! I am 41 years old and I had melasma after my son was born, but then it went away. Suddenly at this age, it just appeared and would not leave. Give the Meladerm a try and see if it works for you. So far so good for me, you just have to be patient and keep trying! Good Luck!
