I chose invisalign b/c I didnt want to deal w/ metal braces. I'm 32 and didnt want to look like a kid w/ metal mouth. I had crowding with the front 5 teeth, not major and the one tooth on each side of my front teeth needed pushed back.

I went to 3 different orthodontists and was told my teeth were minor and really didnt need braces. I got invisalign, it was to take 6-8 months. I'm now on a year and a half and barely able to tell a difference.

If you have the option of having your orthodonist make his/her own in office, go that route. My husband got them 2 months ago (the in office made aligners) and his teeth have moved more in 2 months than mine have in 18 months. The problem is they take impressions and send to the invisalign company to try and make molds for your teeth. You wear what they send. The orthodontist is now making me a few sets of his own aligners and if my teeth still aren't straight I'm going to need metal braces. This is coming from someone who didnt need alot of work to begin with.

At this point I wish I would of gone w/ 6 mos of metal braces then deal with this.

What has your ortho said about why you haven't seen much progress with your teeth?

I've been on a couple consults now for Invisalign. I just have minor crowding in front, and thought I could perhaps be an 'express' case, but I've been told twice now that it's not like they can just push everything out (forwards) to make space, it has to start all the way from the back, or come from shaving down edges of teeth to make slightly more room. Supposedly if I adhere to the 22 hour a day rule, I'm still looking at 12-14 months, which has kind of made me rethink it.

He really hasn't said what the holdup is with the progress other then the fact that they send impressions to invisalign and you get what they send you. I would deff go w/ a dr that makes them in office, they can tweek them. You do usually pay "per set" this way but they have more control. My teeth did not get moved from the back up, they just shaved them down a little bit, its so minor when you think of your teeth being shaved down they just need to move each tooth a little bit. Most people say I'm too picky and never needed them to begin with but they are my teeth and I got them in the first place because I want them to look nice, and will continue the process until they are straight.
