“Would Go Another Route if Had to Redo Again”
Spent: $2,300 in Pittsburgh, Pa
I chose invisalign b/c I didnt want to deal w/ metal braces. I'm 32 and didnt want to look like a kid w/ metal mouth. I had crowding with the front 5 teeth, not major and the one tooth on each side of my front teeth needed pushed back.
I went to 3 different orthodontists and was told my teeth were minor and really didnt need braces. I got invisalign, it was to take 6-8 months. I'm now on a year and a half and barely able to tell a difference.
If you have the option of having your orthodonist make his/her own in office, go that route. My husband got them 2 months ago (the in office made aligners) and his teeth have moved more in 2 months than mine have in 18 months. The problem is they take impressions and send to the invisalign company to try and make molds for your teeth. You wear what they send. The orthodontist is now making me a few sets of his own aligners and if my teeth still aren't straight I'm going to need metal braces. This is coming from someone who didnt need alot of work to begin with.
At this point I wish I would of gone w/ 6 mos of metal braces then deal with this.

I've been on a couple consults now for Invisalign. I just have minor crowding in front, and thought I could perhaps be an 'express' case, but I've been told twice now that it's not like they can just push everything out (forwards) to make space, it has to start all the way from the back, or come from shaving down edges of teeth to make slightly more room. Supposedly if I adhere to the 22 hour a day rule, I'm still looking at 12-14 months, which has kind of made me rethink it.
