Truly Medical Getaways (TMG)

My mother and I booked through an agency called Truly Medical Getaways (TMG) as part of an ESCORTED group tour.
What drew us to TMG was that it was run by a registered nurse (Moira) who accompanied you on group tours; plus there was no booking fee.
In the beginning Moira was great - very helpful, answered all our questions etc etc..
About a month before we were due to leave, we received an email from Moira stating that 2 out of the 6 girls had pulled out from our group tour which now meant it wasn’t “financially viable” for her to come but we could contact her 24/7 at any time during our trip. Not very happy!! She also asked if we wanted, she would hand out our details to the other two girls remaining in our group tour. We did not reply. She handed out our details anyway….
Three weeks prior to our departure date we received another email with our airport transfers, the meeting point at the airport, (that she organised) post-surgery information, items we would need and safe activities (bare in mind that our flights had been paid for in May 2014, almost six months earlier).
We landed in Thailand on the 9/11/14 at 7:20 pm. We had been in the air/stopovers since 6.30 am that morning, so we were both pretty tired. It took us nearly an hour to get through customs and when we arrived at the information desk/meeting point to be picked up, no one was there.
We went to check outside and after being bombarded by hundreds of people with signs, I called the number given to us by Moira. I called twice and there was no answer.
I called Moira, no answer. So again I called the number given to us by Moira. On the fourth attempt I got hold of someone who gave me another number to call?
I called that number and got hold of someone else and I told them who I was and how we were waiting to be picked up. They had no idea where we were and actually asked if we were at the domestic terminal.
I called Moira again and finally got hold of her (keep in mind it was 11:25pm Australian time) she asked me to text through the numbers I had been given. Moira texted back and said one was unreachable at the moment and to go to the area stipulated on my transfer itinerary.
I went to back to the information desk and was verbally abused by the lady who told me no one waits inside, everyone waits outside!
I sent Moira a text and told her I was not impressed especially after such a long flight and long day.
She then asked if we were at the international or domestic terminal? Moira had been given a copy of our itinerary, knew we lived in Australia so not quite sure why she was asking which terminal we were at! We went back to the information desk where eventually our ride/escort arrived.
We finally checked into our hotel at approximately 10.45 pm but after showers etc, were in bed well after 11 pm, preparing ourselves for our early morning pick up at 7 am the next day.
Moira texted to make sure they had found us, then sent me another text in regards to another one of our fellow group tour members, who was having surgery at the same time.
This is the text I received (I’m going to change the girls name to Em)
“I don’t want to call u as you will get charged. But let me know if they found you.
Also did u get the email about meeting Em? She is very young and not very cluey about the whole process so having others around will help. Please text or watsapp me anytime!”
In MY OPINION and MY MOTHER’S OPINION…..

1) It was most unprofessional of Moira to have sent this text message in the first instance.
2) TMG aka Moira promote ESCORTED tours on their website which we ALL signed up for. Moira’s explanation that it wasn’t “financially viable” is
unacceptable.
3) IF Moira felt that Em was “very young and not very cluey” she should NOT have accepted her on the tour OR made alternative arrangements for Em’s surgery to have been postponed and organised for another tour group where Moira would be present to support this very young, not very cluey girl!!

On the day of our operation, both my mother and I spoke to a girl who had gone through “Somnio,” another tour group. She showed us the brochure they had sent her plus she said they had also sent a compression bra; she was also accompanied by 2 lovely ladies from Somnio, as support people.
I am sure all of us TMG girls would have really appreciated this support, especially Em who ended up in tears during her consultation due to the language barrier.
But it definitely highlighted the deficiencies between the two.

Out of us 4 girls remaining on tour, none of us heard from Moira post-op, at all. No text messages or telephone calls asking how we were, how the surgery went, nothing during our remaining 10 days in Thailand.

Em tried to contact her a couple of times to try and change her flights and I also contacted her via viber to try and change my flights. Neither of us received a reply! (I just saw she hasn’t been on since the end of October).

I contacted PIAC regarding my medical report and how I could obtain a copy. They confirmed a copy of ALL our medical reports had been sent to Moira several weeks ago. They forwarded mine to my email address within 5 minutes.

I finally received an email from Moira nearly two weeks after my surgery, which I think is pretty slack.

If I ever go back to PIAC, I will probably book directly through the hospital (which would have worked out cheaper ($1000 - $1500).

I will NOT be using the “services” of Truly Medical Getaways and I would NOT recommend them to anyone!!

Recovery

Honestly the pain was not bad, when I initially woke up in the recovery room it felt like my 2 year old brother was sitting on my chest but there was no issue breathing, I got up to use the bathroom a few hours later (I could have asked for help) I was up and walking the next day. And continued to go out daily just walking around shopping and eating.

The medication did make me bloat so I stopped most of it minus the antibiotics by day 4.
I also found I got tired by lunch time, so would have to take a nap.

Sleeping up right on the first night was fine and honestly I had an amazing sleep.

Dr. Narupon was very approachable and easy to talk to. I asked him straight up if I could have 350cc round moderate plus profile, he said for me to wait and try on the sizers but asked if I had any pictures I'd like to show him? After trying on the sizers I still liked 350 after talking about placement I decided on under the muscle. He then recommended going larger between 375cc -400cc but said I'd have to go High profile because in his words "I'd have a lot of side boob which I agreed to. But he asked me if he could choose the final size which I agreed to on the condition he didn't stick watermelons on my chest.. He laughed and said no he wouldn't do that. In the end I got 400cc, round mentor and under the muscle. I'm happy with the results and my progress this far.. thank you so much :)
