10 weeks post bilateral mastectomy with expanders

Hi everyone! Just to give you an update, i am already 10 weeks post bilateral mastectomy with expanders. I have undergone 2 chemo sessions. I still have 4 more to go with 15 cycles of herceptin thereafter. I had 3 fillings of saline solutions on both breasts. I already have 150cc in each breast. I am taking it slow with filling since i am undergoing chemotherapy.

So far i still experience tightening of my expanders and pain from them and i still take pain medications. I am taking it one day at a time. I know soon this will all be over. What is uplifting though is the sight of my breasts coming into form. It makes my spirit high.
To anyone who is currently undergoing this journey, just hang in there. We will get through this with God's help and healing grace :-)

It was feb 26 2015 when i had ny excision biopsy in both breasts. Only to find out that the left breast had cancer. I decided to have both removed and also wanted breast reconstruction in both with implants. I never read about what to expect. I didnt realize that tissue expanders were going to bring discomfort and pain especially on my left breast which had lymph nodes taken out. I will undergo chemo starting april 27 and i am anxious how i will be able to cope with the side effects of vomiting, fatigue and lack of appetite with pain from expanders. I had only 2 fills of 50cc each. I am petite, 5'1 in height and 108lbs. My ps said i can go as much as 400cc but i think i'd would only go to 300-350cc at most. I will have my 3rd fill in between chemo. Right now i take painkillers ibuprofren, tramadol and at night 300mg of gabapentin. I feel as though the nerves sprouting in my left underarm and breasts are causing hypersensitivity adding to the pain from expansion. I dont know if i made the right decision of having implants. But i feel that when i'm older i would opt to have them taken out. I am grateful that i have come across this site. At least now i feel that i am not alone in this journey. Keep on sharing and i look forward to reading your experiences as i will also share mine.
