“Didn't Work for Me , Tried Many Things - Perth, Australia”
Spent: $1,000 in Perth, Australia
Posted 10 Aug 2011
I attended an IPL clinic 5 times.
I have idiopathic hirsutism (genetic, I don't have any PCOS or hormonal disorders) where my hair follicles are extremely sensitive to testosterone.
I was recommended by my endocrinologist to try IPL.
I found IPL pretty disapointing, because it was very expensive, costing $200 a time for a 5 minute proceedure, and I only got it done to my chin. It also led to redness and some very small scars. The hairs would grow back again within 3 days. The doctor was very enthusiastic and convinced if I kept coming back it would eventually work, but I wasn't convinced.
I have also been on the pill and cyproterone for the last 3 years neither of which have made any significant difference.
But the good news is...I have started dutasteride 6 months ago which has been very effective. I used to have to shave my chin and neck every day, but now I only have to pluck my a few very sparse hairs every 3-4 days. It works pretty similar to Vaniqa cream, but it works all over my body, not just my chin. It did take about 4 months for me to start noticing the difference. I hope that gives some of you out there some hope :)

Doctor was very good at explaining things and very knowledgeable, although the proceedure did not work on me.
Hi Aus,
I'm sorry, that does sound like a lot of money, especially with no results. I am glad, however, you did find something that worked. Please keep us updated if you try something else.
thanks,
