WORTH IT
Now I am at the 2 week mark and though I am still waking up at 5am with a sore back I think i am less sore during the day. I wore the Genie bra today that I always wore before the surgery and it was actually pretty comfortable.
Still no big cravings for coffee and bread, wondering when i can incorporate excercise into my routine? Well I can only stress to anyone embarking on this to lower expectations about what you can achieve in a day beyond reading and sitting on your duff.
The stitches come out tomorrow and am wondering if some of the pinching sensation will go away, one can only hope.
The swelling seems to have gone down, when I gaze downward I am amazed at the beautiful sight of my new boobs, I think I had second thoughts right up until the operation but am very happy with each day.

I think if I had paid out of pocket I may have had more attention and time with the doctor, living in a country with socialized medicine I was very impressed with the hospital and doctor. I did a ton of research before hand.

I was away last week and the tape started falling off after my shower so I pulled it all off. I did retape but the stuff I bought never lasted more than 2 days perhaps because of the extreme humidity.
Also it was so hot half way through week 3 I went and sat in the water of an outdoor lake with a friend and showered after and all seems well. It was lovely to have a cute tankini halter top, i actually am now smaller than all my friends.
I am still not back to my normal energy but doing more like I mowed the lawn a little but still not lifting much.
Ice seems to be the best relief and I am also moisturizing the scars now. I am wondering if silicone sheets are worth the bother since some doctors say it makes no difference. Does anyone have an opinion?

day 8
Yesterday I overdid it, I went to look at cute tops and got carried away at the possibilities even though it's way to soon. I started to feel dizzy and decided it was time to go, I had driven over and when I got back in the car I put the car in forward instead of reverse.
No harm done but I won't be driving for a few days.
My boobs are a bright yellowish colour underneath, the right nipple was darker and frankly looks like it's going to fall off, everyday is a new adventure so I am not going to get upset as things keep changing.
My house is getting dirtier and laundry is piling up but it will all have to wait.

Hi there, thanks for the comment on my post. and after reading yours looks like we are definitely having some similarities, especially today. I took the dogs for a walk & bent over to hook up the leash & almost passed out I got so light headed. I've been woozy & light headed ever since. ugh. My house looks like a bomb went off inside & I think I have every towel I own dirty because I'm so bloody afraid of contaminating my incisions I'll only use the towel once, even if its just to dry my hands. lol. so needless to say I have a huge pile of wash to do. I stacked the dished in the dishwasher but its a portable one & even though its on wheels I'm afraid to drag it around. so there they sit. waiting. I literally stole some plastic forks from mcdonalds yesterday instead of washing dishes. lol. how sad is that.

Its funny what you said about not enjoying your coffee, neither am I! and I love my coffee!! I've actually been drinking a lot of herbal tea & a tea called Pu erh that is devine. its supposed to be very good for healing too I think i read. anyway I was at davids teas & told the girl I had just had surgery & she recommend that and a detox tea to help with fluid retention.

Overall considering what we've just put our bodies through, i'm feeling pretty good. Hope you are too :)
Yes I am napping a lot and I think our bodies are using all reserves of energy toward healing. I overdid it a bit today, any repetitive arm movement seems to be too much. I feel like I have a raging sunburn.
The tea sounds good, take care and don't faint. I hear you on the towells though I have an 18 year old son who uses 2 new towells every day after a shower. I got some antibacterial soap at shoppers and feel showering with it helps. Have you had any discharge? I haven't had much and am now waiting for the tape to fall off.
Also waiting for teenage son to empty dishwasher and that may never happen either.
Hang in there!

Well I finally had the courage to do it and so far and am happy I did. That said it is a big decision and an extreme change to the body that really needs to be weighed carefully.
Many years ago probably before I had boobs my grandmother often complained about how hers hung down to her navel and would be down to her knees by old age, she must have been sixty at the time. From when I was fifteen I had large breasts but not until after I gave birth did they seem to be a problem. I artfully hid them in layers helped by bad posture. I had back and shoulder pain for years and then around age 50 started to consider surgery.
In Canada they do it under the health plan so I applied in September and was given the green light to meet a surgeon in January. I was a 32 G and about 5'6" The doctor figured I was on the lower end of the scale of his cases in terms of size, he showed me before and after pictures of his patients and described possible negative scenarios like one boob might be larger after surgery.
The reason I did it was because I was so discouraged by finding clothes that fit and felt comfortable, they didn't seem to make them. I had resorted to non underwire bra's for comfort and could only tolerate an underwire for a few hours for special occasions. My shoulders had indentations and I had chronic neck pain.

Before surgery this is what I did and believe it helped 100%.

I decided about 10 days before surgery to do a detox diet, I never had much luck with changing my eating habits but here was the incentive I needed. I was also having allergy issues and seemed to have a perpetual cold.
I cut out Caffeine, Wheat and Sugar and followed a five day detox which wasn't hard but be prepared to get headaches and low energy while the body rids itself of toxins. I preferred to do that then rather then after surgery when I was feeling fragile and it worked. I also wasn't drinking alcohol because it was giving me allergies. The result were great, I have little or no allergy symptons and felt healthier going into surgery. Here is the link for what worked for me and I believe has led to a good healing experience.

I also took arnica montana which is a homeopathic remedy known for healing before surgery and after.
Then I cleaned my house, weeded the garden, stocked up the fridge and went for surgery.

day 1
I was scared and a bit nervous, the surgeon and anesthestist prepped me on what was happening and no sooner was I on the table I awoke in the surgical care unit and was being urged to sit up and drink. I was on the table at 8am and home by 1pm. I felt like I had not been given enough pain killer at the hospital and felt panicky at home perhaps this was just me. Would advise not letting time lapse between doses.
I had borrowed a recliner I am naming Frank and I think that was one of the best things I did, resting in the recliner after surgery.

day 2
Had someone help me the first 4 days with cooking etc.. but didn't have much appetite and was quite irritable. Looked at the bandages and the new boobs are not only smaller but shapely, WOW!

day 4
sticking to healthy diet and my coffee tasted so awful have switched to tea where I was the biggest coffee fan ever..... experienced pain on the left side more than right, still taking pain meds but not percocet. Went for a evening walk and it felt good to get outside.

day 5
back to see the doctor to take of jean paul gauthier style bustier "bandage". Releif because the adhesive was what was making me irritable. he replaced that with a sort of netting I am to wear like a tube over my gauzed breasts. at home had a shower and hair wash which felt amazing.

day 7
Woke up and felt like ants were crawling on my boobs which are extremely itchy, removed all gauze and the girls are looking good, no discharge and by the way I never had drains.
I decided to put on a bra i bought at the masectomy boutique for recovering from surgery, it hooks in front, even though el doctoro told me to wear the tube thing, I am feeling rebellious and see that all of you seem to be wearing surgical bras after anyway. Itching seems to have subsided a bit.
