“Mom of 2 Getting Hysterectomy and TT - Oregon”
Spent: $6,800 in Oregon
Posted 8 Jan 2011
Had 2 very large babies....9.5 and 8.5 pounds. Had much trauma with the first birth requiring my hysterectomy now. I have much loose skin and a 35 inch belly on a 138 lb frame. I'm 5'3" and have a 6 month old and a 4 year old. Wondering if this is an ok time to have the TT and hysterectomy considering I have a 6 month old. I will have my husband and mother to help me out with the kidoz...

Hello and welcome to RealSelf!
Wow you are getting the works tomorrow! As far as it being the right time for both procedures medically; that is up to your doctor to decide. But I am sure if he is doing this he thinks it is fine.
As long as you have help with the kids for a while after surgery you should do well. You will not want to be lifting anything for at least a month with that double procedure. You will need to get all of the rest you can and really lay low for the first couple of weeks.
Keep up on the pain meds, drink your fluids and eat a healthy diet to help in the healing process.
You are going to have to totally surrender all household duties for a while so just roll with it :) You will be able to get everything back in order when you are feeling better. No Wonder Woman episodes for a while.
Keep us up to date and we will be thinking about you tomorrow.
I had a tummy tuck at the same time as my hysterectomy in 2004. My daughter was 8 mo old at the time. She is my 4th child. My 3rd delivery damaged my uterus. I found the recovery much harder than a c-section. My ob/gun tried to get my insurance co to admit me to hospital over nite as having the hysterectomy and tummy tuck together was rough. They denied the request so I had to leave. They had me in the 23 hour unit of the outpatient facility. I literally left 5 min before the 23 hours was up. Lots of drains to care for. Lots of meds. Take them. Use help and ignore the kids and care for yourself the first week. You will heal faster if you focus on yourself. Stay hydrated and stay on pain meds.
I do not regret the surgery. I am a new woman thanks to my tummy tuck (and hysterectomy!). I have some numbness on my abdominal area, but I can live with that!
Good luck with your surgery today! We'll all be thinking good thoughts for you.
