I was never unhappy with my nose, but never loved...

I was never unhappy with my nose, but never loved it either. My nose previously had a bulbous tip which was what I disliked the most. From the front it looked so large compared to the rest of my features. The side profile wasn't of a huge concern but being Italian I did have the larger nose of one.

Honestly, I thought it was going to be way easier than it was. Yes, my dr was great but they didn't quite prepare me for after. I did my research but the way they made it sound I thought I'd be fine in no time. Well, it wasn't the case.

I didnt have any packing and I could breathe (at first). The first night I had tubes and a suction bulb that I could suck blood and whatever else out. Oh man was it nasty! Haha! But it did help. The pain very minimal. Mostly uncomfortable. Touching it would have hurt but throughout the whole first week I'd say maybe a faint headache at worse.

The second day, when I had my post op, was the worst pain. Taking the ballons and tubes out of my nose was not great. But it was fast.

Day 2 and 3... Stuffed! I would be so stuffed it was hard to drink. I felt like my throat was going to suction shut. It was hard to talk, eat, drink.. My ears would pop constantly. Day 4 I started to clear. Much better! Also, by around day 4 I stopped dripping stuff out of my nose constantly. I found it easier the first few days to keep a piece of gauze taped under my nose.

So, then comes day 4 when I got my cast and taping removed. Oh boy I was not prepared for this! I almost passed out when I first saw myself. I immediately turned as white as a ghost and my dr thankfully had experience with this. Haha! He calmed me down enough I could leave. I made it out the door where I just lost it. My husband, is a godsend, and sat with me in the car in the parking lot for a hour while I just cried uncontrollably.

I cannot express enough how important it is to prepare yourself as best as you can for looking unrecognizable to yourself. It wasn't that it was done badly, but it's surgery...on your face!! I had mild bruising which wasn't the problem but the swelling. I looked like a whoville who mixed with an advatar. People look crazy with super swollen noses. Haha!! The first week I couldn't look at myself without bawling. Randomly I would just start crying, wondering what I was thinking, missing my nose...just full of so much regret. It does get better!! Slowly I started seeing what would be my new nose.

It's been a month which is still very early when it comes to rhinoplasty recovery. There is a reason they wait 6 months for post op pictures. I still have quite a bit of swelling. Nothing anyone on the street would notice but I notice. Tip is still painful to the touch...but getting better everyday. The rest I can touch okay. Washing and putting on makeup was difficult. Still I have to be extremely gentle.

Be careful kissing! Haha! I can't tell you how many times my husband has given me a sweet kiss only for our noses to touch. Ouchy! He is excited to be able to kiss me normally again.

So far, I think I'm happy. I still have my moments. I still miss my old face when I see pictures, but it's been only a month. Patience...
