I have always been big breasted - they started to...
I have always been big breasted - they started to grow at 12 years old and just kept growing - but after having four beautiful daughters and starting into menopause, they got huge! I actually visited my family doctor three times, intending to bring up the subject but not doing it because I was too embarrassed. When I learned that two acquaintances had had breast reductions and that they were very happy with the results, I did talk to my doctor and he referred me to Dr. Van Vliet. I remember thinking that it was going to be a long wait, that she would give me a hard time about my weight, that I would be told I was too old...but none of these things happened. I believe I visited her for the first time in September, and I had my surgery at the end of December.
Dr. Van Vliet explained everything to me, very clearly and I was pretty calm about the whole thing right up to the day of the surgery (I had a few nervous moments on the two hour drive to Newmarket). I went from a 38H (I think I could have actually been a 38I or more if I could have found such a bra) to 38DDD. I mentioned to Dr. Van Vliet during one of my pre op appointments that I would like to be smaller than the DDD but she explained that with my body shape, that it wouldn't be advisable to go any smaller. She was right.
The surgery went really well, and I had no bad experiences what so ever. The staff at the South Lake Hospital were fantastic, as were the staff at Dr. Van Vliet's office.
I think if I had one piece of advice for people who are having this procedure, it is to not panic. One of my breasts seemed quite a bit larger than the other after the surgery and although I was told (more than once, and quite kindly) that it was swelling and that it would be okay, I was concerned. I think it's fair to say that the girls are of equal size now.
I can't really think of too much more to say, except that it was one of the best decisions of my life and life many others, I wish I had done it sooner. Also, I cannot recommend Dr. Van Vliet highly enough - she is an amazingly skillful, no nonsense surgeon.
