Don't Choose Dentists, They Have No Clue About the Right Bite - Oklahoma

Not Worth It
Spent: $4,000 in Oklahoma

I was told that it would take 7 months to get it done. I wore the trays at least 22 hours a day and after 8 months I realized that it wasn't right at all as one side was shorter than another. But guess what my dentist said? Oh, it looks alright, you're too hard on yourself. For $4,000 that time, I have the right to ask for a complete treatment. If I'm not hard on myself then I just leave my teeth alone and save the money for something else.

The dentist had no idea about the correct bite either, she looked all over and not found anything wrong and made me feel like a complete idiot. I had to fight to get the correction trays, and when they arrived, it turned out that I have to wear them for another 7 months! If my teeth were alright as she said then why???

If you guys came to a dentist for your invisalign, keep in mind that it's you who have to take care of your teeth and check on the dentist's work, don't leave all the work to him or her, also don't trust everything they said about your teeth. If I have to choose again, I would go to an orthodontist for traditional braces.

Hi Stacy -- Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry it went so badly. :( Did the dentist have any explanation for why it didn't work? Did your teeth ever move into the correct position?

Sorry to hear that.

I just dont understand how some people have great results and then some people claim to have horrible results. It would be nice to get down to the real problem. Is it the dentists/orthos? Or the actual invisalign brand making mistakes? Or the patients not following procedure?

BTW, in no way am I saying you, Stacy, are the problem with your treatment. It's just pretty surprising how there are a lot of people in this community who are upset how their treatment went.

Hi Diesel. I think Invisalign is more complicated than we think it is since the dentist and us don't have absolute control about the result. If one thing goes wrong, the whole thing would turn out badly. For example in my case, the trays right at the beginning were so wrong because the person who took the impression did not keep the pressure the same all the time, it was wrong when they sent it to the company. The company just made the trays following the impression they got, again, they had no clue that it was the incorrect one. When the trays arrived, the dentist put them on me and looked over, but as I said, she had no clue so she let me kept wearing the wrong ones until I, myself, saw it so obviously wrong and confronted her. If I trusted the dentist and believed in what she told me then I will forever have bad teeth. So I think it's important for everything to go right.
1. You have to find an orthodontist to make sure they know what a correct bite looks like so if there is something wrong happen, they're the one who let you know that, not the other way.
2. When they take the Impression (teeth bite??), if you feel that the person who does that did not keep the same pressure or you think it's wrong, please trust your instinct and speak up to take another one. Don't rush during that procedure.
3. When the trays arrived, put them on and inspect them carefully to see if the trays perfectly fit your every single tooth.
4. Wear them at least 20 hours a day. Don't leave the trays out for too long.
5. You should take pics of the teeth every month and inspect them yourself. By the time you get it done, make sure that they are perfectly correct from all angles. If they're not, tell your orthodontist/ dentist to have Refinement ones.

My 2 cents: Have the traditional braces if you can, it might save you a lot of troubles. Also, the Invisalign does not work for more complicated cases but if the dentists wanted to make more money, they won't tell you that and you will get an unhappy result. I hope my experience helpful for you guys.

@ Sharon: The dentist's face was completely frozen by the time she saw the # of Refinements =)), no explanation, no comment whatsoever. My teeth got better after all that, but I still think if I followed the traditional braces from the beginning, I could have saved a lot of energy.

I understand. Those molds are very important. When I had mine down, my ortho did it himself and made sure there was even pressure throughout. Then he inspected the mold afterwards and my mouth to see if it was accurate.

How is your treatment going now? Are there any signs of improvement? That does stink to have an additional 7 months, but hopefully it will work this time.

Getting ready to do a makeover which may include invislign. Seems pretty straight forward but it seems lots of negative comments.
