I was scheduled to have a C-section with my first born in 1991. A wonderful child resulted but with on-going horrible complications post delivery. The physician made an incision from hipbone to hipbone, which proved to be unnecessary.
The result of this incision was a build up of scar tissue, which then became an adhesive to other major organs in my abdomen. Between 1991 and 1998 I had to have investigative surgery due to pain, bladder and bowel complications, rashes, skin break down under the flab of skin (pannus) and so forth. In the end I received over eight abdominal surgeries. After my second child more scar tissue was added following her C-section and a year later due to a combination of health problems, adhesives and scar tissue I ended up with a hysterectomy. The build up of ugly scars, unwanted belly bulge, discomfort and pain was on going for many years until I met Dr. Shortt for a consultation. Once he heard about my history and story I was shocked to find out that after suffering for nearly thirteen years that this was a medical condition and that it was not just “cosmetic”. He helped me to realize that it was worth fixing and that I was worth it. He completely reconstructed my abdomen including my umbilicus (belly button) and removed an abundance of scar tissue. I can’t start to express enough to you how incredible the procedure was in its entirety. As a result I have no more bulge that needs to be covered by girdles, long shirts or suit jackets, no more irritations, and no more pain. It built up my self-esteem and self-confidence.
