- 21 Mar 2012
I am blonde/blue eyed and used sunscreen daily since high school. When I was pregnant at age 24 my cheeks darkened and my freckles got much darker. After my child was born the freckles stayed dark as well as some darker acne scars remained. I had IPL to remove these dark spots. The first treatment didn't sting, but as they got more intense it did sting. Similar to being plucked in the face w/ a rubber band (mostly on tip of nose and near lips). My freckles got darker and almost scraped off my face. It's been 5 years and a few freckles have come back (despite SPF 50 daily). I'm considering having it done again also on my shoulders which have sun damage from jogging.

It's a medical derm office, not a plush cosmetic derm office. I prefered this b/c I felt I'd get more evidence based answers, not someone trying to sell me a product. I want a medical based opinion.
Good for you for being so diligent about your sunscreen wear!!
It sounds like that really helped prolong the effects of your IPL if they have stayed for about 5 years.
Keep us posted if you opt to do another session.
