Having a facelift on Monday, July 22, 2013...
Wanting to make sure I have thought of everything. Am expecting t be out of commission for 3 weeks...Am having an upper & lover Bleph..Facelift & Necklift. Staying with a Nurse for the night - then home the next day.
I am anxious about my eyes being stuck together, about not bending over or turning my head -wondering about how difficult it would be taking a shower, etc.
hoping I don't have pain and wondering about sleeping propped up.
Also hoping my husband is a good care giver...should I hire a nurse?
Although I have selected a very good surgeon, I am hoping to be pleased with the results and not looking like the Joker...
Okay, I am nervous....help....
Is there a checklist, besides what the dr. gave me, that I should do b4 surgery?

5 Days Post Op

Here it is 5 days after surgery. And THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES. Wasn't feeling well the 1st 4 days.... General Anesthesia worked out great especially since I woke up - Thank God!!! Went home with a Nurse to care for me throughout the evening. My husband has been a wonderful care giver. Writing down everything...Icing every 30 minutes. when to take pills w or w/o food...ointment. Water, applesauce, protein drinks and yorgurt...He says I am sure to loose weight since I wont be able to sneak eat!!! Thought that was funny!
I looked like an alien yesterday. Still swollen and a little bruised..have taken Arnica and Bromelain. Today and my eyes look droopy...Is that normal? Did I make the right decision? Doctor doesn't want me to talk much for the 1st 2 weeks. Very difficult since I am very animated...Laying low and trying to relax and not look at myself...I hope and pray I am happy with the results!!! and that I will have happy eyes...Hey my turkey neck is gone...so i'm not going to have to wear the tape and elastic..."Secret face lift" It bought me some time using these items...
I get my staples and sutures out Monday.
Thank you again for your responses.

Had a scare today 11 days Post Op

Had a Face/Neck lift and Bleph 11 Days ago...everything has been going great...UNTIL...blood started to drip down my neck from the back of my right ear all of sudden. Husband applied pressure saw where there was a little opening in back of ear.
It has stopped bleeding. Called my PS - He responded promptly asked some questions then said not to worry about it apply a little ointment ... and keep an eye on it. I am seeing him on Tuesday. But am wondering the cause...did I do something wrong?
I was icing may have pressed on my ear or When they say "No heavy lifting if sitting on the floor and lifting myself carefully with table support, and using my legs...was that heavy lifting? I pushed a chair with my legs...but it wasn't an effort.. Now I feel scarred if there is internal bleeding...
Am I over thinking this episode?
Thank you...

3 Weeks Post Op...Looking Good But have swollen mid cheeks

Okay so it's been 3 weeks since my Face/Neck and Upper & Lower Bleph...Doctor said I can start working out...a little.
I am a little concerned about an area between my cheek and jowl next to my lips is still swollen. Wondering if that is normal???
Wondering if I should continue icing? Wondering if I should continue with Artica? Have a Dr. appointment on Friday...
At one of my post ops I did address this issue - they said it was too early to be concerned about it...But I am...

4 Weeks Post Op - Facelift - Necklift- Upper and Lower Bleph

My Doctor said that everything looked normal. My next appointment is in 3 weeks.
I worked out and my neck swelled up a bit. The nurse said to apply pressure and cold packs. But it does concern me so I may go and have it checked...
Also noticing a build up of scar tissue on the outside edges of my eyes...
They told me to massage with a warm q-tip for 3 minutes...

12 Week Post Op - I'm so Happy

Absolutely thrilled with my results.
I can't believe I really went through with facelift, necklift and upper and lower Bleph
Although I am still a bit swollen People's comments are that I look younger, that I look good, what have I done?...they can't see I had a facelift because it looks natural.
Am very happy! What a nice 60th birthday gift.

So happy for you. My results were similar with no pulled look. That is the best results when people just think you look great but have not idea why.

Daisy, The "swollen area" I think is a permanent buccal fat pad that is, since the surgery lifted loose skin, tissue and muscle away from camoflaging it, now better exposed and visible. It seems to happen in thin faced women with fragile or lax skin tone and is more visible under animation esp when speaking. I don't know if it occurs more with a certain type of FL depending on the amount and direction of skin undermining or if it would happen to certain facial structures regardless of FL type. I actually asked this in the QA and my question has not shown up yet. I will be interested in the answers. There is a particular Dr's website where two of the four women FL patients he profiles have this so perhaps some doctors don't recognize this to be a concern or maybe the overall FL results are excellent and this slight "issue" isn't that big of a deal. Otherwise I don't know why a doc would chose to profile them on his results page. Ask your PS if this could possibly be what you are seeing. grace60

Daisy, if it makes you feel any better, I'm a worrier, too. I have concerns, and I look things up on the Internet - and get more worried. Then I contact my PS office and they tell me to give it time ... I am 4 + weeks out. I try to remember that it is a huge surgery with a long recovery time, but I do forget - then I worry some more. Weird sensations send me running to the mirror to see if my face is falling off. How wonderful it would be to be able to just roll with it!

Daisy...at post FL 10 days out most PS' will tell you that you should be past the point of having a hematoma and that some exercise is fine.  However, I had a little 'glitch' like you.  They are anomalies and nothing to get worked up about.  Perhaps a missed stitch or a scab opening up that still needs time.  I am 3 months post op and still have swelling on my jowls and some numbness in front of my ears.  This is nothing as well....in fact...I am kind of embracing it (as stupid as that may sound) because I know that area is was one of the most corrected by my PS and I know he did his job well.  Just relax and enjoy the results. :)  Icing probably won't do much at this point other than make your skin cold but definitely your PS will tell you and advise you more on that.  Your healing sounds absolutely normal to me!  And...it sounds as if your PS is very responsive.  So that's good too.  Are you pleased with the results?

My husband has been a dear so far - writing down my pills and ointment treatment and so forth. I am drinking a lot of coconut water and eating a lot of yogurt - you will not want to chew for a few days. Since I am in Thailand, eating a lot of fruit - papaya, dragon fruit, pineapple, bananas. Taking magnesium (calm) to help stay regular. Good luck with your procedure!

My hubby has been an absolute angel... I am humbled by his kindness we are very blessed to have these kind of guys in our lives. So it's okay for me to take my coconut oil now? Am eating yogurt and have taken Xanax to relax maybe I'll switch to magnesium. Thanks again

Try drinking coconut water - very refreshing and hydrating. I was very thirsty afterwards and coconut water was the best!

Daisy, sorry I've just seen your post!  I do want to wish you good luck tomorrow and let you know that it sounds like everything you are experiencing emotionally is well within normal range.  Let your husband take care of you!  Mine was a saint and it's not terrible for once to let someone else be the caregiver.  :)  As far as thinking about everything, I would tell you to have your husband get you some good healthy protein drinks, probiotic items like yogurt , and some good veggie smoothies and a case of bottled water for the post surgery recovery.  Set yourself up in a recovery "station" with everything within arms length so you don't have to do anything.  And, by all means , take advantage of this time to do nothing and just give in to the healing.  You'll need the time for recovery but managing your expectations about all of this will help you get through it!  Best of luck!

It sounds like you have a good support system in place! I didn't have much appetite the first few days, but I had planned my husband's meals for those days, and that was helpful for him. He was a great caregiver, and he spent most of his time making sure my needs were met. Best wishes for a smooth healing process - I know you'll be glad you planned in advance!

How thoughtful of you to care for your care giver...My hubby was great as well and I bought him frozen pot pies and . It was really alot more care than what I had anticipated. But he kept track of everything and is still...maybe I'll order him a pizza....or lasagna...while I am still drinking my meals....Thanks again

Sounds like normal concerns to me. The first couple of days were tough but it has been well worth it. I had the face lift and the neck lift also and will most likely have some fat granting later. I did not find sleeping in my recliner all that bad but I did miss my husband to cuddle. My husband was very good caregivers and support. I understand all your concerns since those were all worries of mine also. Good luck and keep us posted.

We are so lucky to have such great guys to care for us...We don't have a recliner...thought about renting one...they do in Florida and we are in California. Then thought to buy one...saw one at Costco..and seriously considered it. but it would end up on Craigslist...I'd like one of those massage ones...wouldn't that be nice. instead have the chaise lounge and lots of pillows...I sleep on my side and stomach so this is really uncomfortable... Didn't have the fat grafting...why would you need that if they pull all the muscles back to where that were? I had a concern my nose would look bigger since they pull the skin...I do think I think too much...
