My mother has jowls--I have a stronger jaw, but to my horror (sorry mom!) was noticing slight jowling. I found Dr. Joshua Zimm on this sight through looking for ultherapy specialists. He's a plastic surgeon and does the procedure himself--super important to get someone who really knows not just the technology but the human face.

The procedure itself is pretty painful but manageable. Dr. Zimm prescribed Percocet (which i took half an hour before) and injected local anesthesia (which actually can't do much as it can't reach the deeper skin layers affected by the treatment. I was also told to take some ibuprofen beforehand but forgot to, so maybe I could have been more comfortable.

I wouldn't count on not experiencing downtime. After the procedure my face was super swollen and stayed that way for about 5 days. I also had a welt under one eye that took a few more days to vanish than the swelling.

No immediate benefits (which should be true for most people), but it's now been a little less than a month since the treatment and I'm noticing my jawline is so much more defined that I'd feel the procedure was worth it even without further improvements. I do expect to see more skin tightening over the next few months. The full benefits of ultherapy are usually achieved 3-6 months after the procedure.

I think the idea of needing money to make money applies to ultherapy too: you need collagen to make collagen, so ultherapy really works best on younger skin. I also think of it as a preventative measure and plan to have it done about once a year from now on to (hopefully!) make plastic surgery unnecessary.

No photos yet but might add some at the three month marker. Hope this helps!

Dr. Zimm was super helpful and answered all of my questions before and after the procedure. I definitely have the feeling that he looks out for his clients and is willing to talk to them anytime. Personally, I found him about 10 percent humorless, but that's another story :)
