“Post Gynecomastia Life - New York”
Spent: $8,450 in NY
Posted 25 Nov 2011
The gynecomastia experience has been a roller coaster ride of sorts--from the initial consultation, to the actual procedure. I first contemplated gynecomastia in the fall of '10; and formulated a plan to undergo the procedure in less than a years time. The beginning of 2011 I moved with urgency to find a doctor who could perform the surgery. I ended up consulting with a doctor in my home state of NJ.
The docs reputation with women's breast augmentation (which appeared to be his specialty) was definitely disproportionate to his reputation as a gynecomastia surgeon. Not to discredit his skill set, but there was not enough evidence to reasonably prove to me that he was the best or as close to being the most skilled gyneco' surgeon. Preferably, I wanted a surgeon who concentrated exstensively on the aesthetics of gyneco'--paying extra attention to both the internal and external details. You read so many horror stories about botched procedures, you began to doubt, and worry and experience a myriad of other emotions.
Needless to say, I did not chose the first surgeon I found. The point im trying to make is, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Every cosmetic surgeon is unique; akin to a sculptor or a painter. Essentially they share the same objective; but more than likely the results will vary.
Ok, so I finally have the surgery. Its been one month TODAY! The only regret I have is not doing it sooner. The first week I had difficulty sleeping, and your movements are restricted, but you manage. Im still healing and the final result is still to come. Albeit, at the end of every week, my pecs are tighter, less swollen, and yield less excess skin. The doctor actually sculpted my chest, and contoured it in such a way that it looks as if I go to the gym 6 days a week or so. And this coming from an extremely active/fit guy.
In sum, its been an emotional roller coaster at times; depression, doubt, dissatisfaction, a lot of looking in the mirror, touching and prodding...etc. Still, im enjoying the journey.

My Doctor: name not provided
My rating:
In no way am I exaggerating by issuing five star ratings. The doc and his team were professional at ALL times, understanding and extremely flexible. When I call the office, the response is always pleasant and warm. The doctor doesn't say a whole lot; but just enough, and its everything that you need yo hear. These are my personal experiences. I can not speak for others. A four star rating was issued based on the shortness of your first, second or third post-op visit. You expect him to give a long drawn out explaniation about things, but he doesnt. Its concise and to the point, but informative.

Thank you for posting your review. It's sounds like you had a very positive experience and are loving your results.
Would love to hear how you found RealSelf. Also any recovery tips you would care to share with the other gents?
I haphazardly found RealSelf; just surfing the web. As far as recovery tips are concerned, my suggestion would be to allow your body to heal itself. Take advantage of the time you have off. Let your help do for you, and rest.
Now that is awesome advice:)
Did you take and pre and post op pictures that you would care to share?
I imagine it's pretty hard to find a gynecomastia specialist. What doc did you end up choosing?
Good luck with the rest of your recovery! I enjoyed reading your story so far.
