Teeth Whitening Painful... Not Sure If It's Worth It

I have always wanted to have my teeth whitened, so when I saw a great deal for it, I pounced. My teeth are fairly white to begin with, but I wanted that movie star smile!

I started reading reviews on this site, and was terrified before my appointment today. The dentist calmed my fears. After the first two fifteen-minute sessions I was feeling fine.

Halfway through the third session I got my first "zinger." It wasn't too bad...I have had a lot of work done in my mouth (braces twice, oral surgery, dry sockets after having wisdom teeth, knocked out front teeth when I was about 4 etc) and have a pretty high pain tolerance. I've had that "zinger" feeling during cleanings before--so the first one wasn't bad. I had about 3-4 more after that, and was relieved when the treatment was finished.

What I wasn't prepared for, is that the "zingers" continued after the treatment was over. It's been about 8 hours now, and I'm still experiencing random "zingers" (they're much less frequent now though) and my teeth are feeling extremely sensitive.

Given the chance to do this again, I can say with confidence that I would not. I will say however, that if you're not confident with your smile, or your teeth are severely stained, go for it. My teeth look great, but ss I mentioned before, my teeth were fairly white to begin with, so for me, the pain wasn't worth it.

My Doctor:

Did a tremendous job. They took the procedure very seriously, and made sure to take all of the precautions to make sure my gums were protected, and that I was as comfortable as possible. They made sure to give me as much information as possible to help me make an informed decision about whether or not I wanted to go through with the procedure, and answered all of my questions honestly. I have been experiencing some discomfort after the procedure, but they said that was normal, and just the trade off for having beautiful, white teeth.
