Must Bring a Mini Fan!! - New Jersey, NJ

I did this treatment one week ago and wanted to share my experiences to help others that may be considering it. I did it to treat actinic keratosis (pre cancerous sun damage) and my insurance covered it. My doctor's office gave me a small handheld fan to use while I was in front of the lights. It was a life saver. When I tried it without the fan, the heat was very, very strong and it feels counter intuitive to sit there for 16 minutes. Also, about 5 days after the procedure when my skin peeled for the second time, I used a California Baby product, Calendula Cream, which really helped hydrate my skin and sooth it. I don't think this product would be appropriate just after the procedure as it contains other ingredients that would sting the skin, but it was good after about 6 days.

Most practices have a fan for use with PDT to make the treatment more comfortable. If it is not offered, just ask.
