My Experience with the Pearl Laser

Worth It
Spent: $800 in Mt. Vernon, IL

I have been working with the {edited - provider information appears at the top of the review for registered users} in Mt. Vernon, IL and they are fabulous.

I have a darker, more olive colored complexion and was scared of the possibility of a radical change in pigment from a dermabrasion or CO2 laser resurfacing for acne scarring. When I began looking into various methods the Pearl was not on the market. I opted to wait for this laser and to have my acne scars (pock marks) cut and stitched closed.

Once the laser had been in use for about 6 months I had my acne scars first cut and then restitched which closed the pock marks but still had a scar. This alone was a huge improvement. Holes vanished but scar was still noticeable (not as bad as the hole in that you can at least cover a scar with makeup, you cant cover a hole).

I opted for the Pearl because it was not as risky for pigment change and the first treatment only one pass was done on my face. I did notice a difference and my down time was only three days.

All in all my doctor wanted to see how I reacted with the first treatment and discounted almost half because she was not as aggressive and wanted to see my initial results (again my skin is darker even though im caucasion). It was for sure an improvement. My overall skin tone was improved, fine lines and wrinkles diminished and there was minor improvement in the Acne scarring.

I just had the second treatment today. My doctor was very aggressive this time and did a second pass over the scarred areas. I will post again in a few days and let everyone know how it went. I will also post before and after photos.

I will say my doctors are wonderful and {edited} are absolutely the best. They are very personal, very cautious and meticulous with their patients. They are all about their patients and you know when you are their how important you are to them both. You couldn't ask for better care. They are dermatologists and the best by far ive ever experienced. so far this treament has been great.

I'm in the midst of my full second day (did the Pearl Friday after Thanksgiving and now it's Sunday around 2pm) and I am seriously hoping it's all worth it! I am documenting the changes carefully and I look HORRIFIC. I would recommend using a LOT of numbing creme prior to this procedure...I'm not going to lie, it was very painful. (They should send this thing to Gitmo!) I looked bad the first 2 days but today it's really bad. I am continuing to clean with Cetaphil as recommended and soaking with the vinegar and cold water compresses and then applying Vaseline (which I HATE!!). I am supposed to go to work tomorrow but I don't see it happening. You can't wear makeup til everything peels and I'm a teacher and I think I'd scare the bejesus out of my class! I would say this is a four to five day downtime....but I saw what happened with the redhead and her skin looked amazing after five days...so let's hope!

I have tried fraxel repair for my acne scarring. I have been very disappointed with the results and researching other options.
