Awful awful awful!! I have had braces for the past five years throughout highschool and now into college. While it hurt sometimes a little to have them adjusted, they helped the teeth move at an acceptable rate.

I have to leave for college very soon and so my orthodontist decided to finish some slight crookedness using invisalign for my upper and lower teeth. If you are going to get this done, BE WARNED!! For my lower teeth it is perfect because there's not much left to correct, but the pain in my upper teeth is horrible. The teeth that are supposed to be moved are so tender I cannot swallow without them hurting, and the pain extends all the way to my molars.

Unless you have something very minor to be fixed, DO NOT USE INVISALIGN!! They will not fit right at first because that's part of the "correction process" and they force you to bite and bite and shove them on as far as they go which is excruciating because they are trying to move your teeth too rapidly.

I'd rather have braces compared to this hellish product. I'm calling right now to have my top ones put back on.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. It sounds excruciating! I'm surprised to hear it was so painful, just based on what most people say. Did your orthodontist have any explanation for why it hurt so bad?

They said that the tooth they are trying to move is so sensitive because it also had to be impacted somewhat when they pulled it down too far to straighten it, which can cause the root to be ultra-sensitive. They recommended I take some Ibuprofen to help with the pain. I wish they would have said something sooner because for the first few days, you're going to be loaded on those, haha! After a few days the pain /should/ stop. If you're getting your first tray for invisalign, TAKE PAIN MEDICATION. No matter how stoic you think you are!

I was just shocked at how monstrously it hurt because it never got this bad when I had braces. (From what I've seen price wise braces are cheaper too, but if you're a business professional invisalign might be the best way to go!)

Was it the pain from the aligners that you didn't like or was it something else.

It was the pain. Turns out it hurts so bad because they don't fit properly because I am wearing 6-7 trays in one. So instead of 6-7 trays over a series of months I'm recieving all of it at once. If you are interested in getting this treatment version you will want pain medication, and you will want to go to an orthodontist. Dentists are NOT qualified to discuss tooth movement. Also it is nor recommended to use Invisalign for intruding or extruding teeth.
