I had a full abdominoplasty with muscle tightening six weeks ago. I tried to put on my regular pants only to find that I cannot zip them up. I weighed myself and weigh less than I did before the procedure. Becoming panicked I had my husband look at my stomach without the binder and we both agree that I look like I did when I was 3 months pregnant. In fact, the only pants that I can wear are maternity ones. I cannot believe that my abdomen is fuller than it was prior to the surgery. The pubis mons area seems much larger too.

(Pros)Skin is tight.

(Cons)Belly button looks abnormally small with raised stitches. Abdomen appears distended.

I had loose skin and abdominal fat after having 3 children.

What is going on? Could I still be swollen? Has anyone heard of this happening? What could have happened during the procedure to cause this unsatisfactory result? What options do I have to correct this problem? -- Updated on Jan 21, 2010: After the unsatisfactory results of my tummy tuck, I am now considering liposuction on the pubis mons area to achieve the contour that the TT did not. I have already spent $9000.00 and want to know how much I can expect to pay for liposuction of the pubic area. Also has anyone experienced an enlarged mons area post TT and undergone liposuction to correct it? Are you pleased with the results?

My Doctor: name not provided

She is a very competent and careful surgeon in terms of addressing the muscle tightening however I don't believe she focused enough on the aesthetic nature of the procedure, which was of great importance to me.

Hello, I had my TT done 1 month ago and it is still swollen but flat. I don't think you should still look 3 months pregnant because when i try my pants on it fits with no problems. So, you might want to talk to you doctor about this problem. Good Luck.

I am 6 week post surgery and tt and lipo I feel like i don't have the shape that I asked for. my doctor and others that i have spoken to say it can take up to 18 month to see the full results, I feel very disapointed and if i don't see the result i wanted I will have her fix it at no charge. You shouldn't have to pay to have extra lipo to acheive the result you paid for in the first place. For the money it costs I beleive it should almost be perfect. Good luck

reading all this posts scare me...I had a tt too 3 weeks ago..and some days I am really swollen.. I too look like I am pregnant and skin gets so tight..and like you I weight less, but non of my pants fit..I am hoping the swelling will go down..oh and on my right side I have purple skin around the stitches and that side looks uneven with my other side, I don't know that is because is more swollen or what..I hope I can look even in the future months..

I wouldn't worry yet. Your PS should have advised that it takes a good 3 months for most of the swelling to go down. I was very swollen after 6 weeks and found I would swell, then it would go down, only to swell again. I am at 3 months now and I LOVE my results. Hang in there - I'm sure it will get better.

There IS a repairable reason for this and I want everyone experiencing it to be aware so that they don't have to suffer as I did! I had a flat abdomen before surgery and immediately after had distension as if I was 3-4 mos. pregnant. This year I allowed another PS to operate and he found that my original muscle suturing had busted and my muscles were split apart- this obviously happened immediately after my first surgery and my surgeon neglected to explore the possibilty. I know that everyone's body is different and will have varying results or underlying issues, but if there are no other health issues and there is a large enough disparity between your body pre-op and post-op that others can clearly see, it appears that failure in the muscle suturing and ultimate separation of muscle is the cause for such gross distension. It means going under the knife again, which is sad and unfortunate, but I wanted you to know that it can be repaired. Also beware, the muscle separation CANNOT successfully be palpated externally (as only 1 out of 4 surgeons I consulted suggested the separation- and yes, HE'S the one I let operate!)nor is it visible on X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound (unfortunately, I did all these); can only be postively located via surgery. Good luck!
