100% Worth It - I have a deviated septum which gives me lots of breathing issues - Mexico, MX

I'm really young, I'm only 14 most people consider me really young for rhinoplasty, which is true, but I'm not really doing it to look good but because I have a deviated septum which gives me lots of breathing issues, so I decided to take advantage of the situation and get my dorsal hump removed too. The doctor took x-rays and said almost all of my nose growing had already happened (which I guess is true because I do look older than what I really am). I'm really scared but exited at the same time. A plastic surgeon is going to fix my dorsal hump and an otolaryngologist is going to fix the deviated septum. I chose my doctor carefully and he is very experienced. Mexican nose jobs are usually cheaper than in USA so I will be spending around $3.500

August 6, 2012
So the surgery is tommorow. I'm really exited but nervous at the same time. I know everything will be fine because my doctor is really good, but still, the fact that my bone will have to be broken terrifies me. I started taking Arnica pills 4 days ago because the doctor said it'll help the post op numbness. My surgery is scheduled tomorrow at 10:00 am. I can't eat or drink anything 12 hours before the operation, its 11:00 p.m and I'm already becoming hungry. I'm trying to distract myself from thinking about the surgery. I already got my blood tests done and everything is fine, so there's nothing left for me to do but to wait for the big day.

I'm sorry the arnica pills where for the swelling not for the numbness I confused the words.

So today was the big day. I was really nervous! I even teared up in front of the doctor but he gave me a few a medicines serum to control the nerves. I think it really did work because I started singing in the pre op room lol. I got to me the anestosologist and got to talk again with the plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist. I remember entering to the surgery room and people preparing me form the surgery and the rest is a blur. I woke up at the after op room. My throat was really dry. A nurse came to me and told me to rest I fell asleep and afterwards they took me to another after op room and brought me water and a sandwich and my mom came in. I was there for a couple of hours and then when home. I feel no pain at all. My eyes are purple but don't hurt unless I touch it. My nose doesn't hurt at all, it just feels uncomfortable. My nose tip is a little bulby but the doctor said it's because of the swelling and it will because really pretty when the swelling stops, I hope it does. Anyway the nurse said tomorrow probably will hurt a lot more than today so I'll just enjoy the day while I can.

Its 2 am on the day of my surgery, I went to bed at 11 and woke up every hour, right now it hurt so much that I couldn't sleep again. I took some antibiotics and as soon as the pain is gone I'm off to bed again.

Last night I woke up every one or two hours but...

Last night I woke up every one or two hours but other than that I guess I slept fine, from 11 pm to 1 pm and at 4pm today I had a 30 min nap. I would definitely recommend to have a glass of water next to you at night because every time I woke up my throat was dry because I couldn't breath through my nose so I took sips of water every now and then. I woke up with a lot of swelling around my eyes and the purpleness has decreased. It doesn't hurt, but its uncomfortable. Honestly, I thought today would be worse. I still feel awful, but not as awful as I thought I would. The tip of my nose is still bulby but its decreasing.

Everything went better today, the day after the operation has been the worst. Today I woke up with less swelling and the purple eyes are totally gone today. Having this thing on my nose feel uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt. I feel much better now. I've been having some trouble sleeping on my back and breathing through my nose. I can't wait to get the cast removed.

Oh and by the way my doctor has been great so far. Nurses have been calling everyday to see how I've been doing. I have an appointment for Tuesday in which they'll remove the cast and the stitches. I can't wait! I'm really happy I did it, I've always hated my old nose and I had lots of breathing issues. The doctor said I had one of the most deviated septums he had ever seen.

Sleeping on my back has started to be a problem. I've been having some trouble sleeping. Other than that I feel amazing. All the swelling is gone now. I feel really good, like I usually do. I can't wait to get my cast off!

I feel great. I really want to go out now, I don't care about looking funny with the cast on, I'm tired of spending all day in bed. Is it time to go out yet? I feel fine really.

Today I went out for the first time after the surgery. I went to buy some groceries and rent a movie. There were a couple of people who stared at me but I don't mind to be honest. I felt a little itch on my nose but not too much to complain about. I can't wait to get the cast off! 2 days to go. I feel great right now! I can only complain about two things: 1. I can't breathe through my nose 2. I hate sleeping on my back.

I'm getting my cast off tomorrow. I'm super exited! The doctor said I should take some pain killers before so I will. I can't wait for tomorrow!

Ever since I was a kid I had been insulted because of my nose, I've been called a witch a lot of times and I hate it. One time at christmas my close uncle pointed out that as soon as I was ready I should get a nose job because my nose was really ugly, the whole family agreed with him. I remember that I felt awful because that christmas I had tried really hard to look pretty, I got a new dress, nice make up and I combed my hair really nice and still, the only thing anyone seemed to notice was my ugly nose. Ive hated my nose for as long as I can remember so when I told my parents maybe it was time for me to get a nose job they were really comprehensive. My dad has a nose with a dorsal hump and a droopy point and my mom had a nose job a long time ago so there was no way I was going to get a nice nose from any of them. They both understand how my nose has always been the reason I lack confidence so they were more than happy for me to do this. I decided I would tell my friends personally because my nose would be a major change so they would definitely notice it. They were all super supportive and just like my parents, they understand how I've always hated my nose. Some of my friends came a few days after the surgery and brought me balloons. They were all really curious and some of them who also hate their noses are now looking more into getting a nose job.

So today I had my cast off, it wasn't was horrible as I thought it would be. The doctor put me a sort of type on my nose so I still can't see it, but I can more less now see the shape that it is taking and I'm loving it. They also cleaned my nostrils and now I can breath much better. I will post pictures later.

I think the biggest question that people on this website has is "Is it worth it?" and for me it was, 100%. The day of the surgery I felt fine, my only complain was probably that I had a really soar throat, but other than that it was a breeze. The second day was probably the worst, but after that everyday kept getting better and better. I am now 13 days post op and I think I got back to my normal life about 7 days post op. Tomorrow I have an appointment with the doctor in which they'll clean my nostrils again and remove the tape that I had on my nose after I got the cast removed. I decided to do the surgery on my summer vacations so I'll be starting school in 3 days with a new nose.

I've been super busy with school and I completely forgot about the pictures. But here they are! I am now 19 days post op and feeling better than ever.

I got tired of counting the days so I'll just name this My Rhinoplasty Journey.

I can't believe its already almost 2 months post op. By the time I was about three weeks post op the doctor allowed me to do moderate exercise, such as walking. When I was a month post op I was able to wear glasses and exercise normally. About a month after my operation I had an infection so I couldn't breath completely through my nose, the infection laster for about a week, but the doctor said it had nothing to do with the operation, it was a virus.

One year later!

I can't believe it has been more than a year since I had my surgery. I still don't regret doing it, probably one of the best choices I've ever made!
Dr. Mauricio Marcos Fahme

The doctor has been really good. Almost every appointment with him started a few minutes late, but other than that he has been great. I would recommend him 100%. There was a lot of work done to my nose and some how he managed to make it all look great, Im impressed. If you are considering him for your surgery google him and visit his website. He's great!

Thank you :) And yes, in mexico we use pesos. $1 US is worth about $13.13 pesos. So $700 US is more less $9,191 Pesos

The surgery went fine. Yesterday I felt okay, today I woke up with a lot of swelling around the eye area and I'm really tired, I guess I'll be sleeping a lot.
