!2 days after explant

The explant was done on June 14th. I am now on day three of a swimming routine. I feel so good. There is still some tenderness in some areas where the fat was taken and also along the incision lines on the breasts but I am functioning with day to day activities without any problems. I have to say when I swim back stroke my buoyancy has changed and I have had to adapt to a new center of gravity! I am so happy I am free and my body is my own again.

I had silicone implants placed on top of the muscle in 1975, they were done in the UK. I then had two children and breast fed them both. In 1994 I went back to the UK as they were ruptured and hard. Silicone was not banned in the UK so I travelled there to have them replaced. A mass of cells on the left breast was removed at the time. The biopsy came back clear. Over the past 20 years as my body has changed with age I always felt they looked hideous but couldn’t imagine what I would be left with if they were removed, so I just carried on as usual. However the right breast became very hard and I was uncomfortable with my appearance and also when I hugged anyone I felt I had a brick on my chest.
I knew there was something going on in the right breast as I often felt pain and discomfort into the arm pit.
After reading about fat grafting and spending hours researching I came across a Dr. Khoobehi in Metairie, just outside New Orleans. I traveled to see him for an initial free consolation in early 2015 I believe it was.
I was very impressed with Dr. Khoobehi and his gentle manner and the way in which everything was explained.
I had planned to have the surgery in the Spring of 2015 but was competing in the Senior Games and qualified for Nationals so decided to wait until after the events. As it turned out I did not travel to the Nationals as I couldn’t commit to the rigorous training routine. So I decided to do this procedure in the late Fall. There were many events that came rolling along that changed things including being hit by a car in November when I was cycling. It took me almost 7 months to recover and feel comfortable with scheduling the surgery.
I drove to Metairie for the pre-op and Dr Khoobehi explained the procedure and what I could expect. I had little breast tissue to place the fat into but at this point I was so ready to get rid of these hideous looking implants.
Seeing the photos that were taken reconfirmed what I had thought for a long time. On Friday June 24th I went into the surgery center and was really nervous but knew once I was under the anesthetic it would be over before I knew it.
I left the surgery center wearing a compression garment, compression socks and drain tubes. I went to bed and stayed there for most of the day. I took pain meds for the first day only and admit I was scared to look at what was there! On day two I was up and moving around and peeked inside my bra. I was pleasantly surprised! I had a cleavage and some breasts! The biggest shock was feeling soft tissue again after 40 years of hard rocks!
There was a small amount of Lipo done to create a cleavage and increase the breast tissue so I was in a compression garment for a week and now I will wear Spanx and a sports bra to help the skin to tighten a little.
During the procedure a large mass was removed from the right breast and axillary glands and that was sent for biopsy. There has been a hard gland under my arm that should have been removed 20 years ago with the second implants. I am thankful the mass was just silicone that had had oozing into the ducts.
Stitches came out and I couldn’t be happier about having done this. I wish I had found Dr Khoobehi years ago and done this. My breast are now age appropriate at 67 and I look normal again.
I cannot thank Dr Khoobehi enough as I feel so liberated from these implants and I finally have my real body back again. Next week I will begin with exercise and weights again to rebuild the muscle mass I have lost over the past 7 months. Also I will add on a few pounds of fat!
Dr Khoobehi and his staff were wonderful. The staff at the surgery center were excellent and it was very reassuring as I lay waiting to go in for the surgery.
The fact the fat grafting and implant removal was done at the same time was a blessing.
I would highly recommend this wonderful doctor and his staff. I cannot thank him enough.
