Yesterday was day 4, and I had to go back to work. While at work, I starting peeling areas mostly around my nose/mouth that was obvious and embarrassing. I know I am not supposed to do that, so I did it very gently and tried not to peel too deep. This morning, that area is red and tight. Is it red because I peeled it off too soon? Will that area peel again?

Updated on Jan 13, 2010:

I just had my second VI Peel today, and she accidentally got a drip into the inner corner of my right eye. She washed it out immediately with warm water, but it still burns. Not too bad, but I still feel it and I am now worried that it will continue to get worse. Even though I think I washed most of it out, will it still do damage? Should I continue to keep washing it out with warm water and if so, for how long? Will it make me go blind? I am nervous...

How long will pre-mature peeling redness last after a VI Peel? -- Updated Jan 13, 2010 -- Will a VI Peel make me go blind if it seeps into your eye?

Mine was reddish on day 7-9. I accidentally rubbed my eyes & scratched my cheeks in my sleep, but it didn't affect the results or redness & I do have very sensitive skin. But this tells me that the peel must not be very strong. Also, the moisturizer did nothing during the peeling process. I looked like a big snake & peeled from days 4-7. The area will not peel again. My skin was shiny for like a week after, but was only "tight" for 3 days leading up to the peel. I think this is why my under-eye looked older than before the peel. And like someone else here, it did nothing for my acne & I started seeing a few cysts (that I didn't have before) only 2-3 days after the skin peeled. I wouldn't worry about having manually peeled a bit, if it didn't hurt my skin (which everything always does easily), then I'm sure you'll be okay. Let me know what you think of the results in a week. Were you using this to help w/acne, etc. as well?

Your lack of pain has nothing to do with how sensitive your skin is or how effective the peel is, it has to do with the fact that the peel has phenol in it, which is a numbing agent. The moisturizer helps hide peeling skin, keeps your face moist (duh) and keeps people from picking at dead skin. Picking skin that doesn't hurt can still lead to inflammation, redness, and acne...is this where you picked? :) If you are trying to get rid of acne scars like I did do 2 ViPeels 3 weeks apart. It is cheaper than IPL (which can burn you and hyper-pigment your skin permanently) and is must faster. Any before and afters??

For Reviewchick. My comment was not about "pain" or a lack thereof. When I used the word "hurt" I was referring to harm or damage, not pain, as in the expression "it can't hurt...". And yes, I'm aware of what moisturizers do(duh)... I am an educated person. The moisturizer did not help hide the flaking skin (meaning it didn't disguise it). As for "picking" it wasn't intentional, I stated that I rubbed/scratched unintentionally. I'm well aware that inflammation, etc. results from an action, intentional or not. As for my skin senitivity, I know how to gauge it very well thanks, and for some people, "pain" or harm such as inflammation, breakouts, rashes, stinging, etc. ARE absolutely correlated to the skin sensitivity--no different than an individuals' immune system (histamine) response to certain allergens.

I did it for pigmentation purposes. Thankfully, it did no damage and I am happy with the results- especially the way my skin feels to the touch. However, I just had my second VI Peel today and she accidentally got a drip into the inner corner of my right eye. She washed it out immediately with warm water, but it still burns. Not too bad, but I can still feel it and I am now worried that it will continue to get worse. Afterall, it's acid. Even though I think I washed most of it out, I am concerned if it will still do damage. I will continue to wash it out with water just in case. She did say it should be fine and not to worry, but my gosh! How scary!

Um, that's scary. Aestheticians are usually not formally educated in physiology, chemistry, etc (meaning with actual Bachelor's degrees, etc.), so I would make an urgent request to see your physician. Acids do not merely rinse away from membranous areas, even if rinsed well, especially since your still feeling stinging. It's stinging because the tissue is responding to something that is affecting it. Get to the doctor or emergency room, it's your EYE for God's sake, get it checked immediately. Do not take the word of a beautician for information you need to get from a doctor!
