Juvederm for Nasal Lines and Marionette Lines - If I Can Just Get Past The Bruising... - LeHigh Valley, PA

Worth It
Spent: $575 in Lehigh valley, pa

I had a juvederm treatment yesterday afternoon. Just my nasal lines and the marionette lines on my mouth that were causing a downward crease/frown.

I am now terribly black and blue 24 hours later. I had the foresight to take off of work for the rest of the week, but I never anticipated I would look so awful. These will be 7 to 10 day bruises, for sure. What can you do, short of admitting you had the treatment done? One of the reasons you do it is to come out with a look as if it was all natural, and admitting you've done it defeats all that.

From now on, anytime I look good - it'll just be assumed I "paid" dearly to look this way. Yeesh!

Okay, it is now almost a year later. I probably should've written an addendum a week after my initial comments, but better late than never...

I was so upset the day after my first juvederm injection that I called my doctor and asked to be seen immediately, which he very graciously did. When I arrived at the office he checked me out and had one of his assistants do a very quick treatment on each of my bruises - I don't know the exact name of the instruments used but I think she used whatever wand they normally use for a photofacial - followed by a "wave" treatment. I couldn't believe the difference, within hours the bruising was visibly improving, and by the very next day the bruises were almost gone. I was amazed.

So the moral of this story is: Anticipate for the worst side effects and prepare for it by asking questions like "what do you do if this happens...." beforehand! As far as for my overall impression of what juvederm did for my appearance? I wished that I had enough $$$ to do more than just one vial, I really could've used another half vial. But one was all that I could afford and I definitely liked the difference it made. The juvederm not only lifted the downward corners of my mouth, but actually helps keep them from cracking and being sore. I think I could've really benefited from just a tad more but them's the breaks when you live on a strict budget.

My rating:
I'm naming the doctor because he is one of the best, and I've been going to him for over ten years now.

Sorry to hear about all the bruising you're getting. There are a few things you can do to help speed up recovery:

1 - Ice, ice, ice

2 - Arnica montana supplements

3 - Avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin (check with your doctor first if you're on prescription meds)

Here are some tips from doctors that may also help: How to deal with bruising and swelling after Juvederm?

Good luck!

i called my doctor and he told me to come back in, that they would give me a pulsar treatment (or whatever the thing is that they use to do photo-facials) I was in and out in 5 minutes, and it was amazing how much of the bruising cleared up instantly.

Sharon's advice is really good. I took Arnica montana supplements to prevent the bruising--and I'm really sensitive to things like this (very little bruising and swelling). I have lots of little "pimple-like" bumps where the injections were, but I suffer from periodic dermatitis, so it just looks like that. Not that you'd want to lie, but if someone had the bumps in that area, say you had a reaction to Nair for the Face. (We all have some unwanted facial hair! LOL)

they gave me natural supplements to take afterwards, too - they had no effect whatsoever. The day after I had the injections my injection sites were bruised black circles. I have to repeat, the photo-facial pulsar laser treatment was what cleared it up almost instantaneously, I was really amazed. I didn't have to pay extra for this service, it was done at no charge. If I decide to ever have juvederm again - and I'm very much undecided as of right now - I would make a point to return the day after for a follow up treatment for the inevitable bruising.

The key is in the Dr. - I've had injectables over the years, including juvaderm just yesterday - in lips, nasolabial folds, corners of mouth and even a line in my forehead - There is an occasional bruise, but my Dr., who is a cosmetic surgeon, is so proficient, uses a very small needle, and I have no time when i cannot be seen in public - any small bruises can easily be covered by concealer - Find the Right Dr!!!

I'm so happy to hear that everything turned out okay. Yay!
