After having my two wonderful children and having my tubes tied, I decided to approach my husband with the idea of the mommy makeover. My kids are now 4 and 1. With each of my pregnancies, I gained about 50 lbs. As I had reached within 10 lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight, I noticed my body wasn't going back to that pre-pregnancy shape in no way. I wasn't even getting close. I approached my husband with the mommy makeover idea and at first he wasn't on board. He loved me the way I was. Thanks to all of the Realself.com reviews, my husband started to understand how I was feeling and where I was coming from. It was very hard for me to put it into words. Basically, I lost all pride in my body and couldn't restore my confidence no matter how hard I tried.

I booked my surgery six months in advance and was counting down to the day. My surgery was on January 6, 2011 and I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post op. I hate needles and hospitals, but the day of my surgery, I amazed myself. I was not one bit nervous. I was excited and had confidence in my doctor. I knew my results would be amazing!

My surgery was five hours. I had the tummy tuck, breast augmentation and liposuction on the thighs. I went home about 4 1/2 hours later. I didn't feel much pain. I was pretty comfortable except I had a negative side effect from the anethesia. I was able to urinate on my own 20 hrs after my surgery. I ended up having to get a catheter for a few days and then the problem cleared up. It was very uncomfortable when I couldn't go.

Even with that minor issue, I have to say it's all going to be worth it. I went back to work on day 13 post op and I still have a lot of swelling 2 1/2 weeks out. But I can tell a huge difference in the contour of my body and am anxiously awaiting a full recovery. I'm going to be so happy with my new level of self confidence and can't wait for shopping and summer!

I will post my after pictures soon.

Here are my pictures - 3 weeks post op. I'm not sure if I will add the before pics... Things are looking really good and I am so happy with my results, even with all the swelling I still have at this point. For anyone wanting to know, the breast implants are saline - filled to 450cc.

I really have mixed feelings about posting my before pictures. I know it's helpful to see the big difference, but I'm so ashamed of how I looked. I do want to help others who will be in my shoes as I was a few months back... how do you all feel about posting the before pictures? Any feedback from someone who's gone through this would be greatly appreciated!

Updated on 3 Feb 2011:
I am adding my 'before' pictures and a 'four day post op picture along with my four week post op pictures. I hope the before pictures help other people see the changes that are possible.

Not sure about things anymore... recovery has been tough and delayed due to me getting small blood clots in the lungs. Now I'm on blood thinners for six months. I understood this was a risk of the surgery and NOT my doctor's fault, but just never thought it would happen to me. I'm changing my rating to 'Undecided' for now.

My rating:

This whole experience has been a major step for me. Dr. L and his staff have been there every step of the way. Prior to scheduling my surgery, they took the extra time to answer my long list of questions and was very honest with their responses. After the surgery, Dr. L has been there immediately for any type of question I have had and has never made me feel like a question or concern of mine is "stupid". He's honest, tells it like it is, and that's exactly what I was looking for in a surgeon.

Thanks so much for sharing your story here on RealSelf. By doing that, you're probably helping other women who were in your shoes a few months ago!

Thirteen days is pretty fast to go back to work. You must've been in good shape to begin with.

I'm glad you were able to so this for YOU. Looking forward to seeing your photos!

I'm seven weeks post op and am finally starting to get some energy back. I did experience a complication and was hospitalized with a bunch of small blood clots in the lungs and that has set me back a bit. I experienced this at 3 1/2 weeks post op. I'm healing great, but still have some swelling as predicted. I'll post more pics soon.

Holy Cow, just read your story. I am so sorry to hear about your blood clot issue. What were your symptoms that lead to you finding out you had blood clots in the lungs? Were you given an anti blood clot shot after your surgery. Sorry for all the questions. I just have a big fear of blood clots.
I wish you all the best and good luck...

My symptoms started with my shoulders being stiff. Then after a few hours, it hurt deep in the right side of my chest just to even breathe. I was crying and screaming in pain from breathing. It was horrible. My blood was thinned before the surgery, but I'm not sure about after...

Please let us know you are ok. I am sure you are. Only good thoughts and prayers going your way.

I am fine now. Thanks for asking... it's just been a rougher recovery than what I expected. Going on 10 weeks post op, and gradually getting there. I would just regret thinking I would never be in the small percentage of those who experience complications. I just thought it would never happen to me, but I was wrong!

I am soooo happy you are doing better. How soon after did you get the clots? Did you walk much after surgery? I am very nervous only because of my son. I can't imagin what you went through....but so glad you are doing well now. Did the doc say it might have helped if you did something else.? You have me very interested in your progress. I am going in on May 31st and always nervous about aches and pains since I got sick 4 years ago with a undetermind autoimmune illness that scared my lungs. It was very scary. But all is good now, but I always worry that something else will happen.
Take care of your self and keep in touch.

I got the clots 3 1/2 weeks afterwards. I was up and walking a lot and actually went back to work on day 13 after my surgery. I have ruled out not enough physical activity... :). There was really no suggestions on what I could have done, it was just something that happened. I'm going on 10 weeks post op but still have my bad days. I definately don't have my normal level of energy back yet. I get upset with myself for not being able to be really in the swing of things yet. Please account for all of this in your recovery period b/c you don't want to push anything. I've just had a rough road with this surgery... :) I hope you don't experience anything I did on May 31st. I hope we can keep in touch, b/c now I'll be thinking of you on that day! If you ever want anymore advice, feel free to email me anytime. I'm glad to help others now since I've gone though this. Take care! PS- hopefully I'll be posting some more post op pics soon!
