Day 5: Post-Op

Today, I went back for a review with Dr. Sandeep. He wanted to assess the results of the surgery, remove the stitches on my columella, and to replace the splint that was holding the bridge of my nose down. He was very careful with the stitches and that part went quite smoothly. After that he applied an alcohol swab to loosen the adhesive on the splint, and removed it. Removing the splint was painless, feeling only a bit tender when he had to manipulate it out of the fit of my nose.

He commented that the septum was straight, and so was the tip. All was well. After that, he proceeded to suction out the blood clots and bloody mucous within my nose, and that was the painful part because he went quite deep with the rod-like suction device. At this point though, it felt so good to breathe through my nose all of a sudden and I had never experienced such unfettered breathing before. Upon completion, he reapplied the splint, pressing it quite firmly along the length of my nose and advised me to continue cleaning the columella with hydrogen peroxide, followed by chlorpenicol (antibiotic ointment), including the inner portions of my nostrils (where additional openings were made).

Overall, I should be happy with the way Dr. Sandeep sounded about my nose, but I will only know for sure when I can see it for myself once the splint is off next week.

Day 2: Post-Op

Video for Day 2: Post-Op is up here: http://youtu.be/eE6tPBJU6kA.

I had my first shower yesterday, and it felt really good to get the grime off. I woke up at 5.30am because I was freezing in the ward, so I took a walk around outside, and subsequently ended up at the balcony, as you can see in the video. No pain once again, and oozing still continued. Good thing was that the doctors were supposed to remove the nasal packing in two hours' time, so I was really looking forward to that. When I took out the nasal packing, it was really weird because they had to pull 8-10cm of stuffed up gauze out of each nostril, so you can imagine how weird it must have been for me. Discharge was just a while later, so I went home today.

Day 1: Post-Op

The video I took was over 250mb, so RealSelf didn't approve the upload. So here it is over on my brand-new YouTube page: http://youtu.be/9KxAfVj_XSQ. I oozed quite a bit into my moustache dressing overnight, and that was in spite of the nasal packing (each one was 8-10 cm long!?) stuffed up each nostril. Nose was completely stuffed up, and I had to rely on my mouth to breathe, which resulted in my throat and lips becoming really parched.

Tips: Bring along moisturising lip balm, a neck pillow, and lozenges.
