Minus 7.3 pounds of skin- 60 days po...- Killeen, TX

Day before.. I have lost about 120 pounds over the last 18 months and the result is (as all of you know) horrible ugly hanging skin. I work out 6-7 times a week, I run and have a personal trainer but without surgery this flap is going no where. I am VERY nervous of surgery. I have had a previous bad experience of being awake while intabated so I have a lot of fear. My husband will be gone on Army duties the week of my surgery but my best friend will be with me. She has the perfect personality to encourage me to move forward to reach my goals and yet support and love me.

So the day of surgery I was nervous.. my best friend went with me to the operating room. The DR drew on me.. gave me a margarita in my IV and the next think I remember was waking up. I had no pain. I was sleepy but I was up in my room by 1230 and my surgery had begun at 7 am. My best friend came back and she took a picture of my belly to show me. I had tears of joy. I was comfortable.. on a morphine pain pump and resting. My dr does not use binders until 2 weeks out. I also had a catheter so no need to get up. I felt pretty well and even had a steak dinner that night.

Day 2- still in hospital.. UGG! This was the worst day for me. I was on the morphine pain pump all day. I was dicharged at 4 and had been sitting for over 24 hours. I was so stiff and it hurt so bad to stand up. I went home with my friend who tried to feed me.. ( I felt sick) and then put me to bed with pergocet. IT was a rough night. If someone can sleep with you to help you get up then tie a rope or towel to the footboard to help you pull up. In my opinion day 2 was the worst.

Day 3.. at home - moving about.. feeling better. I am getting up and down by day 3. Still pretty sleepy and tired. I have shortness of breath and the stitches are tight. Surprisingly the incision does not hurt, the drains are uncomfortable and the pulling inside is uncomfortable. I am positive and I think that helps.

So first post op was good. My Dr said I was an A+ patient. No complication.. great recovery.
I am standing up 85% straight and I can get up and down fairly easily. I have little pain and I am mostly off the pain meds. Just a half here and there.
I want to tell you that I was very physically fit before I had surgery. I lift weights 3 times a week, I run 5ks, I teach a group fitness cycling class and I credit my recovery to that fact. I am strong.
My legs can lift me.. my arms are strong enough to stabilize me.. this MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE!
My back didn’t hurt because it was strong enough to bear the extra burden of me walking hunched.
I am supposed to get my drains removed on Thursday. Will update then.
? Happy Healing!

Day 6
Good day. I drove for the first time today. I am slower in general but getting around well and standing up well. I stayed sleeping in the recliner for comfort because I am not ready to lay out flat yet. My hips which were liposuctioned hurt a lot. I feel internal tugging but it's not bad. I am still swollen of course. Overall I feel very well. I was able to go to a movie with my best friend today and then I went to the grocery. I miss working our but I will wait in order to make sure when I go back I will be well enough not to hurt myself.

1 week ago today I was in the recovery room after my tummy tuck. I am so glad it's over. I am sore at my lipo sites but getting up and down gets easier and easier. I feel good and I am going to a 4th of July BBQ today. Myupper back is a little sore..I am mostly straight but perhaps a little hunched over than fully erect. I feel fine though. I hate my drains and I can wait to get rid of them tomorrow. My out put is about 12cc every 12 hours and getting lighter in color.

Day 9 Went shopping a little today.. I did feel tired. The drain sites hurt a little and I don't really like my binder.. it's hot and tight. Ugh.. overall I feel great. Getting up and down is easier.. I am still in the recliner due to the soreness of my lipo sites but they are getting better too.

Day 10
Feeling pretty good today.. it doesn't hurt to get up or sit down. I can't really sleep on my sides yet.. but it's better each day. I worked out this AM.. a cycling class that I usually help teach.. it made me sad, but I tried. I can only physically go about 40% right now... but it's worth it. I did isolated lifting too (biceps). I am feeling well and healing well. The drain sites are sensitive but the incision does not hurt. I am upright and and can lay down flat now. I am pleased with my decision.

Day 13..follow up appointment..doctor says I am doing extremely well and am an A+ patient.
I am still puffy and he checked for a seroma ..which I did not have. He also took all the scabs out of my
Belly button which was unpleasant..ugh. He released me to workout again reminding me they I did just have major
Surgery. So I f feel well..the soreness lessens each day. my sides still remain the most sensitive.

Day 14 I was a little more tired than usual today....

Day 14 I was a little more tired than usual today. I don;t know if its from going back to work or from working out.. or just a normal part of healing. Overall a feel very well. I had some tightness at my mid section that made it very hard to stand up straight... the dr said I could gently stretch and I did and felt better. My glue is beginning to come off my incinsion. My belly button does look better after yesterdays "cleaning". I am irritated by my binder.. it makes my skin sore.. I don;t like it. The dr told me I don;t have to continue to wear it.. it says my swelling is "stable". So at the 2 weeks PO point I am pleased.. I like being flatter than ever before. I just want to heal faster! :)

Day 21- I am doing very well. Physically I am about 90%. My hips are still a little sore and I still swell, but overall I am doing very well. My glue is coming off and I have been cleared to swim etc. I ran a mile 2 days ago and did ok.. back to pre op times. I taught a cycling class yesterday so I am healing well. The dr. did check for a seroma again yesterday just to make sure but there was none. He said I no longer have to wear my binder as well. He suggested a support garmet for comfort. I am runing a 5k on Saturday so we'll see how it goes. I am still very pleased with my decision. I am so thankful for the support of my family and my best friend. It has meant so much to me on this journey.

Thanks! My doctor's quote was " your only problem is you won't quit working out" LOL.. actualy it makes me feel better and works out stiffness. Best wishes to get the drains removed.. they suck! Happy healing!

So I'm 30 days out from surgery. I am feeling pretty normal.. I am working our regularly and I ran a 5k this past weekend. It was dfficult becuase you move your core a bit when you run, but each day I get better. My scars are well hidden by underwear and I am happy with my results. I still have swelling, especially after working out, but my dr said that was to be expected. I am comfortable sleeping and I have begun lifting again (light). This is one of the best things I have done for myself. I feel the same.. but I looks so much better. I am happy.

Today is two months out. I am happy with my tummy tuck and I think it's one of the best things I have ever done for myself. My results are very good and I can look pretty good in almost any clothes I choose. I don't have to try to hid my belly anymore.
I have ran 3 times since my surgery in races...two 5ks and one 10k. The first race was really hard because I think I was trying to brace my core and it hurt. I was only 3 weeks out at that time. The 10K I did last weekend at 7 weeks out and I felt no ill effects from the tuck. I am back to working out. I am 100% in cycling, 90% in weights and like 50% in core work. It's hard to work upper and lower abs and I feel stinging. I think my swelling is setting down but I am usually a bit puffier after I workout. My scars are OK.. not raised or anything and well hidden by panties. My belly button will be nice someday once the redness settles down. If you are thinking about a tummy tuck and you can have a positive attitude you will do fine.
