Five friends and I just tried a single treatment of Fraxel two days ago (its a long story about how we all ended up trying this - I won't bore you.)So far, great!
As far as pain during the procedure - we had very different experiences, depending on how long we left the anesthetic cream on. Be sure to leave it on for at least an hour! One of us experienced a moderate amount of pain - this person had the anesthetic gel on too lightly, for too short a time, and missed a few critical areas near the hair line and upper lip.
Most of us experienced only mild discomfort, sort of a little static electricity-like feeling. One of us who had the anesthetic on for about an hour and twenty minutes felt no discomfort at all! After the procedure we used cool packs, and we all felt (and looked) like we had spent the day in the sun - not too bad! The next day we had a little swelling, nothing horrible, and just a little skin sensitivity - no pain. Today my skin is starting to have a light peel - easily covered with moisturizer and makeup.
I've read some of the other "bad" experiences on this site, and I would say if you follow the directions (use the anesthetic gel, and use some cool packs the first day), the experience is really no big deal. Like they say, follow the doctor's orders! Stay out of the sun and use sunscreen afterwards. I can't wait to see the results over the next few weeks.
