Hi,

When I went for a Fraxel Treatment at a medi spa, the technician told me that a doctor she was "training" would be observing the procedure. However, once I was lying down with my eyes covered, it was obvious that this doctor was operating the laser on my face - not the technician (who has treated me before). I was surprised but didn't object. At no time did he actually say "I'll be doing this ". When the 3 of us were back in reception, he said "Thank you for letting me observe". It wasn't until the next day that I realized I'd been his "lesson".

I'm angry that he did this - he'd never used the laser before - and I should have been consulted shouldn't I? 2 days later, it's obvious that he missed several areas - only about 65% of my face looks like it was touched by the laser- and I paid for the session.

Do you think I have a valid complaint? I don't want any more treatments from that spa and I want my money back. What do you think?-

Something similiar happened to me... I think they pick patients they think won't speak up or cause a fuss...You should ask for your money back..Most likely they will offer to do it over Not acceptable..They should practice on someone who works in the office who consents ect... You didn't consent to this person touching you... If they did this in the first place it is highly unlikely they will disclose it actually happened.. You have to speak up asap...

Every state has laws that require the patient to be fully informed. If the "observer" did indeed perform ANY of the procedure, he and the doctor you contracted with have opened themselves up to a lawsuit that you have a very good chance of winning, if you can prove that the "observer" participated.

I don't know what a medi spa is, but I had problems and i was at a medical clinic. Certainly you should have been told who was doing the procedure and how many times they had done it before. We really get taken advantage of. You would think with all the malpractice insurance doctors have to have, they would be less likely to pull crap like that.

I am also surprised your pain was mild. I thought it was so painful. The numbing cream was just something to make us think it wouldn't hurt as much. I even had to get pain reducing injections. That's probably why I swelled so badly. I hardly think they will give you another treatment for nothing, or give you your money back. Go somewhere else next time. It's your FACE, and it's what every one sees when they look at you. You don't want to take chances. I did the treatments on my face, neck and chest, on the advice of my doctor, for basil cells. I had 4 treatments and still ended up having Squamous cell carcinoma surgery on my face afterwards. Therefore, how good is this procedure afterall? Why were you having it done?

Funnyface, I don't know how it is in Canada, but here in the US that would be grounds for a complaint to the AMA. And if it happened to me, I would sue. It's about consent: you did not consent for that doctor to treat you, or even put his hands on you. And, according to you, he lied about it! It's inexcusable. It's sneaky, and unethical. I had my Fraxel done by a plastic surgeon who runs a med spa. I had to sign numerous, detailed consent forms beforehand. Did you have to as well? Did they mention who was performing the treatment? These med spas are run in such a way that nurses and technicians can administer medical treatments "under the supervision" and by the authority of a physician. Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder whether that gives the supervising physician tacit permission to treat you.

It's bad enough to have what is meant to be a dermatologist's procedure administered by someone who isn't a doctor (your "technician" at a med spa), but someone merely in training to *be* a technician? I presume you neither consented to this nor were given a massive discount for it either, right? COMPLAIN.

For that amount of money, I would be willing to take someone to court if they didn't deliver.

I need some advice - my mother is 65 and had Deep Flaxel. She contracted a staph infection which we caught right away and is being treated. What are the long term affects of the staph infection worse case scenario - and what are the success rates after a staph infection is contracted. Does anyone have pictures post staph infection?
