Worth It
Spent: $2,500 in Baltimore, MD

It was so cheap cause my insurance paid for half. This is my second day with a liner and I am in complete pain. The liner up top is okay but the one on the bottom is really painful. Taking them in and out to eat causes pain too. I've heard that it can take up to a week for the pain to go away, but I dont know if it will. I will have 12 liners up top and 6 on the bottom. My coworkers havent really noticed them, but the "buttons" make me talk funny. If you are interested make sure that you are a good candidate, ask about whether or not you will need the buttons and where they wil be located and ask about a retainer. I have heard that some people still have to wear a retainer for life after they are finished with Invisalign. The idea of Invisalign is great but just realize even though they are invisable, there are still a headache. They hurt, seriously affect your eating habits, make your love life uncomfortable, and make you talk funny. Just do your research and make sure you know ALL the facts and you will be okay.

Hey Kelmo- it is only day 2, right? The pain should be gone by the weekend. You will adjust, your eating habits should only be affected the first/second day after you start a new tray. Yes, you talk a little differently but I wear them to court and have yet to have anyone make any comments. They do take a little time to get used to speaking in, however. And how can you say they make your love life uncomfortable when you have had them on less than a week?

Hi Kelmo, I also recently started wearing invisalign trays. I am on my second set of 26. I agree, the pain can be a little intense when you get that first set. I'm sure you are probably doing better by now considering you posted on July 9th but I'll go ahead and say it anyway: IT GETS BETTER! =) You feel a tremendous difference as you go into the second week. My trays became very easy to take out. If it were not for the buttons, I'm sure I could have popped the bottom tray out with my tongue...lol I was so ready to move to the next set. Your teeth are shifting so its not going to be pain free. I will say that my second set did not "hurt" the way the first set did. The tenderness is very minimal now and I can remove the trays easier. I only experienced the pressure/tightness. I am not saying that I would go biting an apple on day one of a new set, but it is nothing like the discomfort of the first set. I have 7 buttons and yes, I almost had a fit on day 1 and 2 trying to remove the trays. I came across a site that sells an aligner removal tool (A.R.T.) and a great travel case that includes aligner case, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. for retainer and aligner wearers. www.dentakit.com As far as invisalign interfering with your love life, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Business as usual here. :) Maybe you can explain?

Thanks for your comments. As far as the love life, I feel extremely uncomfortable kissing my husband with these things on. But I don't want to take them off every time either. I can barely talk right with these things on, kissing is going to take practice. It's just a little inconvenient at times. The pain has gradually been getting better, but I have only been able to eat soft foods for the past week. Hopefully my next set will be better.

I have finished my bottom liners and I have 5 more top liners to go. The pain went away after the first 3 liners. After that, it was just discomfort. Although, I havent been able to bite into an apple, and have had a hard time tearing into steak, the discomfort really only lasted for the first 3 days for each liner. After that, I could pretty much eat anything. I hope all your liners are as easy as the ones you've had so far! Good Luck!

My ortho has me wearing each set for 3 weeks!....ugh! :( I am on my 6th set. I have 26 sets total so it's going to be a while for me. My teeth were already pretty straight. I just have a gap that I always hated between my upper left k-9 tooth and the tooth right in front of that one (sorry I don't know how to better describe where gap is...lol). When I take pictures, it always comes across as a missing tooth (in my opinion). I can see a difference already. My molars have really shifted. They are tilting more inward and are very straight. Great hearing from you. Seems like you are moving right along.

Hey i just got my Invisalign today! I am so excited! I'm not feeling much pressure like at all. I feel like I keep having to push them in more to feel anything. Is this normal? And when I put them in, there is always my saliva in there so then it makes little bubbles. How do i get rid of that? Did anyone else have that problem too? Me and my new boyfriend haven't kissed. Is the Invisalign going to make it awkward? i didnt have bad teeth they just slightly tilted back. but i wanted them perfect. im looking so forward to seeing a difference in my teeth.

Maybe your next set will next will be tighter. At this point I am only wearing my last set of Invisaligns at night and they still have a snug fit when I put them on. Not all of my aligners were tight but they were snug. If your next couple of aligners don't feel like that, ask your ortho about it. I have gotten more used to kissing with my aligners on but since I no longer have to wear them all day, I don't really think about it as much. The extra spit is normal and thats something your probably get used to in the next month or so.

thanks KELMO7! so helpful. yeah as the days have gone on. they have oddly kinda just started fitting properly. i no longer feel they are loose which is great. and i pretty much figured out how to get rid of the bubbles...Q TIPS. haha. after using toothpaste and stuff to clean them, dry them with a qtip. =] i hope thats not bad but it works. haha

Gregory1977 (6 posts) 27 Mar 2009
It was through my former employer. Self-insured. Sorry.

I am wearing my first tray (bottom only) for a week and 3 days and it feels like it's a little loose in the back, is that normal?
Kelmo7 (6 posts) 16 May 2009
I had the same problem for a couple of my trays. Let your ortho know. It might be ok if it is loose in an area that does not require tooth movement. But if it is loose in an area that does our ortho may need to re-fit you liners to make sure that your teeth move correctly.

Do any of you have overcrowded teeth? if so what kind of effects are there? good? bad? does it work? hurt? My teeth are not that bad fine on top but a little overcrowded on the bottom. I'm getting married so I want them perfect for pictures

alright so i got mine today, they kill like hell right now honestly. i have 11 trays total, the one thing i have found that works better than pain killers is ICE COLD WATER, it gets under and helps my teeth feel much better, hopefully it will get better and it should
Rachel London (1 post) 18 Feb 2011
im thinking about getting this because my bottom teeth are overcrowded.
How bad is the pain? Is it as bad as your wisdom tooth growing in? Because that was the most unbearable pain I've ever had!!
