I had my second photofacial a week ago. Cost of first was $150, cost of second was $99. Shop around as they are often on sale. Both were done with Palomar Starlux, and both were on setting 5 out of maximum 6. Very little pain and no after effects except for slight feeling of being sunburned the rest of the day. I'm skin type II, fair, burns easily but turns to tan. LOVE LOVE LOVE this procedure. Accomplishes exactly what I wanted it to: gets rid of sun spots, freckles and brown scars. Takes multiple treatments but that's ok with me because the tradeoff is no downtime. Also, much cheaper than Fraxel.
