After loosing 70 kg of excess weight I was...
After loosing 70 kg of excess weight I was referred to Dr Richard Bloom on 3 occasions over 4 years to discuss my options for the removal of excess skin (on my thighs, stomach and arms). In the lead up to, during and after the surgeries Richard and his team have been highly supportive and realistic in regards to my options to achieve the best outcomes for each procedure. Richard has always been honest about what I would need to do to achieve the best outcomes (for example, he suggested that I loose a few more kilos before having my stomach done), which resulted in a not just the best outcome, but an amazing result. This also enabled me the headspace to ensure that I was ready for this significant, but well worthwhile surgery. I found this approach refreshing; I would prefer someone who is honest about what needs to be achieved beforehand as opposed to someone who does what I want at the right price!
I'm not going to pretend that any of these processes have been easy, however the nursing staff at the hospitals Richard chooses to operate from, his anaesthetist, his staff at his rooms (Megan, Katie and Kirsty) and Richard himself have been amazing. They have been incredibly patient and have answered all my questions all whilst dealing with and supporting an anxious and at times somewhat neurotic patient!
A friend of mine told me when I was considering having my most recent surgery done that since I had the excess skin removed from my stomach (i had body contouring procedure) she told me that she had not noted the excess skin on my arms (bless her), however what she had noticed was that since I had the body contouring procedure done my confidence had grown and that as a result I now "sparkled".
Now when people tell me I look great, I am no longer like teflon (note - it does not hit me and slide right off - however sometimes I find myself looking at myself a little too long in the mirror because I can not believe it is me!!), I believe that I look great and IT IS ME in the mirror and although I have done a lot of the work to enable this transformation myself I would not look as great as I do if it had not been for Richard and his team.
