One and half months after my rhinoplasty and my nose at the upper part looks really wide.

I had a rhinoplasty 7 weeks ago. The hump of my nose has been removed and my profile looks good. On the other hand when I look myself in the mirror the upper part of my nose is so much thicker than what is used to be.

My nose still feels swollen, feels heavy. But the feeling is better than it was right after the surgery. The thickness though, is still an issue. I can provide pictures to anyone interested of before and after the surgery.

My nose 7 weeks after the surgery doesnt look the way i imagined it would look. I did it to improve my breathing and the looks of my nose.

I would say that rhinoplasty is worth it, but you need to be patient

Is the first pic from b4 and the 2nd one from after. The 2nd pic definatley looks like there is still is swelling. I cant see why you would want to change the shape of your nose in the first pic, it looked good.

Have you had a follow up appointment yet? I'd say there are By 7 weeks a fair amount of the swelling should of gone. Hope it gets better for you.

Thanks for your answers. Yes the first picture is from before and the second is from after. Ten years ago I had problem breathing and I had an operation to correct my crooked septum. The doctor then only operated at the cartilage part of my septum, basically his way of dealing with the crooked septum was to completely remove it at the lower part!!!!!. As a result of that and of reducing the enlarged turbinates (hope my English is correct) my breathing improved a little. The appearance of my nose didn’t change back then, the doctor was not a plastic surgeon and my intention was only to improve my breathing. Being unaware back then (10 years ago) what exactly was done to my nose I continued being satisfied that my breathing improved. Year after year though the tip of my nose was falling, eventually becoming as you see in the profile before picture. So, the first reason for my operation was to improve my breathing because it was still not right and the second was to support the lower part of my nose from falling. The doctor now did that by taking implant from my ear and putting it in my nose tip. My nose collapsing like that also had created an asymmetry which is not very clear from this picture so I’ll try to dig some old pictures to show it clearer. Also the doctor now “broke” the bony part of my septum to make it more straight and improve my breathing. That is the reason I would like to believe that my nose looks and feels so swollen. My question is: Is there a way that my nose at the upper part would eventually turn out to be more wide than it used to be? Is there a way a mistake was made at the process of moving around the two little bones that form the bony part of the septum and maybe spacing them out or something so that my nose is now more wide than before?? Thanks again

Dear friend, I know how you feel cause I hav similar probs to you. I mean the nose was ok before, so was mine, but I wanted to imprve it but te resuls ar nt what I wish for. Be patient a bit and wait even a year. Hearing that there are also peole in similar situations should make us feel that there are also others, if you can see what I mean. However, pls dont be obsessed by it asyou ll get psychologically not well. Wait a bit and if you stil feel that you need a revision do it. But try to avoid such cosmeti operations. Yet, it is only a nose and yrs is still presentable, and afte yr full swelling fades away it will be better. gd luck dear. :

I guess patience is really a virtue in those cases. I guess i am either in the category that really the advice " you should wait 6-12 months for the swelling to subside" applies, or something went wrong. Time is on my side i guess:-)

yanni, who was your doctor in greece? I think you should find a very very good doctor who works on the greek celebrities and ask them what they think. Maybe your doctor did something wrong but another more experienced doctor could correct it in a 'revision surgery'? You should always get a second opinion from different plastic surgeons, get as many opinions as you can about whether this is normal or not. ???? ????!

Hello, I think im not ready to hear another opinion before the 6 month mark goes by. Others doctors dont touch recently operated patients anyway. The swelling goes down i think, painfully slowly though...I am now 2.5 months post-op and waiting to see. I dont there could ever be a reason why my nose would be thicker at the top, i mean what could the doctor have done to make that happen.... Thanks

Hi there, how is your nose doing now almost a year from surgery? I have *almost the same issue* My nose above my base is oddly wide right now. But I am only about 1 month and 1 week or so from surgery. Thanks!

challenge mastery contribution

Hi all , its been more than a year now. The swelling hasnt subsided completely. I would say it needs to go down another 30% if the swelling on the pics i posted was 100%.
My doctor commented that i heal slowly for some reason....
Also behind my ear where the doctor took cartilage to add at the tip of my nose a small lump-like thing has developed. Since i dont live in athens any more but in spain, it wasnt easy for me to have it checked. Nevertheless i managed to go to my doctor, and he said it is excessive scaring! And suggested to use kelosoft cream.

Anyway coming back to the nose, i think in real life it looks better than in pics. In pics the swelling is still visible. I will try to post some pictures maybe in the weekend.

Another small complication i had was that, because at the tip of my mose, the cartilage that was added, in actuallity was two seperate pieces. Well these two pieces seem to be moving independently now, and one is a bit lower than the other now......
Telling that to the doc he commended that there is no way other that re-surgery to have them (re?)-attached.

Having said all these i am in overall satisfied even though i should have done some things differently. I picked on my nose freely after 5-6 months with my finger, because i didnt know it could that the cartilage bit was comprised of two pieces. Maybe that shifted one piece like 1-2mm lower. Also even though my doctor is very skilled, maybe i should have that thing behind my ear checked from another one..still thikning about it ....
