Hello! I have ALWAYS wanted a tummy tuck! I am 42 and had three babies (youngest is 15) and while I am relatively thin and in good shape, the stretch marks and sagging skin has always bothered me. The thinner I get, the worse my tummy looks. I am 5'7" and 127 lbs.
It is paid for and just around the corner and I am panicking a little bit. Here is where my head is at... Reading all the online blogs I am freaked out that this won't be worth it. I am interested in hearing from gals in my situation who were similar in body type. My girlfriend had it done but she had significantly more extra skin and fat to be removed and she believes anything would be better than what she had before. I am not in that spot. I read about not being able to fit into my normal clothes due to swelling for up to months after???
My pre op next week and I have a LIST of questions for him! Oh and I found out he doesn't use compression garments or binders and all I have read about is how you need them. Suffice to say my head is spinning. Any feedback, advise or words of wisdom out there? Thank you so much! P.s. I will post pre photos soon.
Thank you for the posts! I've made the decision...

Good luck to all of you!!!!!! Here's to a speedy recovery and exciting results!
Great review?
KC Peach - hang on it will all be fine. Everything you are thinking and experiencing is totally normal. Surgery is a frightening experience but it will be ok.
The one thing I like to stress is to stay away from the negative. There is good and bad for any surgery but if you are healthy and mentally ready for this so it will be fine.
It is good to read up on all of the side effects and possibilities but each person is different and heals at their own rate. Some swell and some do not; and some longer than others. Just take it a day at a time and know everything is temporary.
This surgery will give you the confidence you need to feel wonderful about yourself and that is what counts. You can do it!
About the binder...my doctor also does not recommend or require them. And I say Thank God for that! I woke up in recovery with one on and was out of it by day 3 post op. Mine was mainly to hold the gauze on for the first three days. You will swell with or without it so you might as well be as comfortable as possible. I healed beautifully and ended up with a perfect tummy not using the torture devices.
You will read many different opinions about this which goes for any other part of this surgery. You could ask 10 surgeons the same question and get 10 different variations of answers. Bottom line..trust your doctor and follow his treatment and recovery guide. I do not believe that there is a right or wrong answer for anything. Each doctor is different based on their experiences and practice. He will not do something that will harm you or your outcome. Just take a look at my pictures and you will see how wonderful I did without the binders.
You will also see that some say massage and some say don't, use oil and don't use oil...it can make you a bit crazy.
You can do this! Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Yes, the swelling will be annoying and you won't be able to wear smaller or regular clothes for a while. But try to think long term. Soon you'll have a flat belly and be in normal clothes (plus hopefully some new ones that you treat yourself to)!
If you get a chance, check out Kimmers' Tummy Tuck Survival Guide. It's a great read.
It sounds like we're about the same size. I'm 5'6", 125 lbs. I have wanted to do this since I lost the pregnancy weight from my first child, but knew that I wanted to finish having babies and get in the best shape possible. Having accomplished all that - I am scheduled to have my TT (with or w/o muscle repair! - to be determined by my PS during surgery!) next Mon 4/18. When I lean over, I can literally grab over 2 handfuls of streched out skin. YUCK! I haven't worn a bikini since I was 18 yeats old and I'm not comforatble naked with my husband. I'm thrilled that for the first time in my life - I'm a size 4 - but when I look down at my body, I have a hard time seeing past my stomach.
I'm not looking forward to the recovery. I'm nervous about "what if" I do have the MR done? I'm not thrilled about possibly refraining from all my workouts for 3 months.
I will personally have at least 2 weeks - where I can totally rest and recover, possibly closer to 3. I plan on taking extreme advantage of that time with lots of rest, a super healthy diet and supplements. I hope that allowing my body to rest and heal and not over-doing things even if I feel like I could, that it will help speed up the process and possibly reduce swelling. A couple of months of this to me is worth the outcome, even if I can't fully wrap my head around what this whole process entails!
From reading on this site, I've gathered that the swelling tends to be worse at the end of the day. I'm hoping that a very low sodium diet and limited activity will help to keep this down.
There's no way for me to lose this mess of belly without having a Tummy Tuck. I'm scared and nervous, but I'm also excited! Excited to finally look as good as I feel!
Good Luck to you! This is a big deal. It's a big procedure with a long recovery time, but a life changing outcoe. My PS - whom I am really thrilled abut using again, said to me at the beginning of my consult, "Tummy Tuck patients are a real happy group of people!" I love that! As nervous as we are - ultimately this is something that will make us more confident and happy with ourselves.
